I'm sorry but 6:55-7:55 in that video is bad 4 wheeling etiquette and gets trails closed. If you can't handle the obstacle on the road, please wait for a more favorable day. Driving around causes unnecessary additional damage and problems with erosion.

Unfortunately, according to the etiquette of Tread Lightly, MountainEarth if completely correct. The video show a clear situation where the drivers were going off trail. Third bullet point of Tread Lightly:

Trying to do the right thing all the time is hard and often we can forget, so please consider this simply as a reminder that all of are trying to help each other the next time we go out.

In the grand scheme of things was that the right thing to do? No. But for our group on that day the decision was made to go around. What you don't see is that myself and Ben were the last two through, 9 other vehicles had already gone through (not around). The main route was dug up and the last vehicle to make an attempt to go through was buried past the axles. There was no way that last two trucks were going to make it through. At that point the options were for the two of us to go around or to have the 9 other trucks turn around and come back through and I'm guessing most of them would have gotten stuck again and some would have opted to go around - leaving 9 trucks to tear up and do more damage. Again, it wasn't right but it was the lesser of two evils.

Reminders are good. Unfortunately we sometimes need to figure out right from wrong the hard way. Which is why I'm trying to scale back on the meets this coming summer. I know that we were in over our heads last year and that's not a good thing all around. Not good for the trucks, not good for the trails, and not good for the future of the group. I do try to plan for the least capable rig and the least experienced driver that way we know that we can all have a good time and be safe and responsible while doing so.
