A little Chevy Cobalt just bumped me at a stop light. He didn't hit me very hard, and the only thing his front bumper touched is the bottom of my hitch receiver. I'm guessing he was only going 5 miles per hour or so. It made a nice little three-sided punch out flap in his bumper haha.

I spent a couple minutes under the truck and everything is fine, nothing bent or out of place, you can't even tell the guy hit me. So here are my two questions:

    1) Do you think I should have anyone look at my truck to make sure that there isn't any damage I'm not seeing?

    2) Do you think I should file a police report just so I have some insurance against him trying to say we were in a parking lot and I backed in to him or something ridiculous like that?

    Thanks.

Yes, have it checked and yes, file the police report.
It does not sound like anything serious happened, but I had the same issue before and did not file a report, and did not even get their insurance information because I did not see any damage, and then later at home I discovered some damage behind the bumper.

It does not cost anything to make sure...

I seriously doubt that a 5MPH hit would hurt anything hitting your hitch. And he would be at fault for the rear end, so if police will take a report for an accident like that, wouldn't be a bad idea. Hope you exchange info with the other driver too. Just incase you do find something. But like I said, I doubt there is anything wrong with the truck.

Thanks guys. Definitely exchanged information and snapped some pics with my phone. I'm mad at myself because I forgot to ask for his driver's license number, but oh well.

agreed. take it somewhere and just have them check the frame and the bolts where the hitch connects although i doubt there would be any problems if he hit you that slow with a cobalt and only with the plastic. and yes, get some sort of documentation on what happened. even if there is no insurance claim better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. you hsould be fine though

Ask for money if you stay away from police report. But it can't hurt you if they are at fault. Doubt that hurt the truck...
