Body shop and paint question

is it possible for a body shop to sand and paint an area on the front plastic bumper that has a paint chip the size of a dime without taking the whole bumper off and painting the whole bumper?

 

Yes. But will it look right?

I saw your other thread about OCD... Will you be ok with it just "fixed" or will you need/ want it replaced? Thought about a tube bumper that you can just hit with spray paint and fix everytime?

It can be done... paint the whole bumper with it on the truck. As for just feathering out the chip and painting that small area, it'll never match. Unless you can block it, meaning there are edges defining the specific region that's chipped, then you can just paint that "block"; the edges help blend paint discrepencies.

Really, the best way would be to remove it all, sand it all, and paint it all to get the cleanest result. That way there won't be any overspray, no weird lines, no weird dull or too-shiney spots, etc.
