Personally I could care less if mj was legal or not but the medical mj ploy is a joke at best. You have 20 year old idiots running around with a medical mj card because they have "chronic pain", my ass.

California and other states who are attempting to follow suit are not doing the pro mj users any favors by enacting these ridiculous laws. Its still a federal crime and states can not make laws less restrictive than federal law. Further more dispensaries will never last. They get shut down sooner or later and the counties have figured out if you require all kinds of permits, licenses, fee's taxes etc.. It is very simply to put them out of business or prevent them from opening in the first place. (but the feds get around to them eventually even if they make it through the county/city minefield)

Simply by enacting city or county ordinances as to where they can operate makes it near impossible to open.

Then there are the home growers who typically grow more plants than they are allowed and they get arrested or at very least get their plants yanked.

Its a mess and isn't getting better anytime soon. As I said I could care less if its legal or not, I have no intention of using it but it needs to be either all the way legal or all the way illegal trying to exist in a gray area of the law simply puts people at risk of becoming a part of the criminal justice system even when they think they are in compliance by following california law.

Back to your regularly scheduled program :)

I agree, it's ridiculous for a state to legalize marijuana for any purpose while it's still illegal at the federal level. But states are doing it and it's up to the federal prosecutor in a given state to decide whether or not to pursue charges. So far in CO they generally haven't. But it doesn't mean they won't.

I'll be honest. If pot were legal and I wouldn't get fired for having it in my bloodstream at work, I'd partake occasionally. But at this point, with the consequences being high, it's not worth it to me. A couple hours of fun, walk into work the next day and either have to quit to avoid a test or get fired once I take it... so not worth it.

Nothing wrong with some Rx drugs to ease the pain. No one should suffer if they can help it.

Valium just makes you not care doesn't do much for the pain. More of a calming drug.

I am a Doctor of Pharmacy/Pharmacist (PharmD). OP (and others, I guess), Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding pharmaceutical treatment options and questions about any particular agent.

This is incorrect (as has been mentioned in this thread already I believe) - they are 2 COMPLETELY different classes of drugs.

Fact: Less than 10% of patients actually become addicted to opioids; however, the majority of patients taking high dose opioids or for long periods of time will become physically dependent (there is obviously a difference between addiction and dependence). The way to help avoid physical dependence is titration when appropriate.

Marijuana laws are very tricky/confusing, but we wont get into that. Marijuana may have appropriate indications but most users use it to get high - that's it. If it is being used for medical reasons, it needs to be treated as a C-II (schedule II) drug such as morphine, oxycontin, etc. These drugs are the most highly controlled drugs - marijuana is not treated as a controlled drug at all IMO. Currently, it is not treated as a controlled drug at all according to pharmacy law. Lastly for example, according to the FDA (federal) it is a schedule I drug (has no medical purpose) whereas cocaine is a schedule II drug (has a medical purpose).

Fact: Patients have the RIGHT to be pain free. (Legal)

    Not really, discussed earlier.

    True.
