Can I adjust trigger pull on Sig 229

So I recently just purchased a Sig 220 DA/SA. Really love the gun so far. However, DA is set at 10lbs, SA set at 4lbs. I am able to shoot it fairly good, but wouldn't mind have the DA Trigger adjusted or set to 7 lbs or so.

Just curious if I can take it to a gunsmith and have them adjust? Does it depend on the gun?

Sorry just saw your post. You can actually, it's not as easy as say a Glock where you can polish a couple parts, or spend $150 and drop in a 2lb trigger, but it can be done and I've done it on all my Sigs with good success.

There's a combination of things you can do all depending on what you want, but I'll let you know what I've done and you can go from there. First, I bought a SRT "Short Reset Trigger" kit online from like MidwayUSA for about $50 and installed it myself. For some reason I'd read this will improve your DA pull by about a pound or so, and it did. Not a gunsmith so I can't tell you the "why" behind it. Using no specialized tools besides what you can find around the house or in your toolbox, I installed it in about 3 minutes. I'm not a rocket scientist, but I found a good picture thread on...believe it or not "CALGUNS.net" of all the yuppy places to look. Obviously, "SIGFORUMS.com" is another great site. I'd email you the pictures as I still have them at home, but I'm deployed and don't have access. Here a link to some pictures, not the ones I used I "think" but they'll work.

Next I used a polishing kit for my dremel from Wal-Mart and lightly polished the sear connections to take out some play and friction. Used references found online, mostly at sigforum. Also completely polished the trigger bar as well, and by polishing, I mean removed the black resistant coating on the bar making it...well...polished...like you would a feedramp. Hell, do your feedramp as well! Actually found some very good videos on youtube showing exactly how to assemble/disassemble your 229, great references.

Lastly, and what you might want to do first, is I changed my hammer springs. Don't "cut" your stock spring, nut up and buy a couple new ones. They're only like $20 for a 16,17,18,19, and 20lbs spring kit. Wolff makes some, and others do as well. I think the stock hammer spring is 24lbs or 21lbs depending on how old your Sig is, and this is where you make your $$ on DA pull. By lowering your Hammer Spring pull, you're descreasing your DA trigger pull, by essentially lowering the force used to strike the bullet. If you lower it too much, you'll start having failure to fires. I think 19# is the standard "I recommend" value when it comes to Hammer Springs on Sigs. So that lowers your pull another 2lbs and still gives you 100% reliability. A 24# or even a 21# Hammer Spring is over kill in regards to primer strikes.

If you must spend $$, send your gun to Gray Guns, www.grayguns.com, and they'll work your Sig over and make it run like a champ. But for someone who likes to tinker, doing what I recommended above will make a noticeable difference in your rig.

I caveat everything I say with I've shot IDPA, 3-Gun, qualified for the Parris Island Shooting Team, and was going to go to the Eastern Division Shooting Match at Camp Lejeune this year had I not been deployed. I like to think I'm no slouch.
