Pay for the one you know you did

Fight against the one you didn't do

I have had my far share of tickets, but I have to agree to some of the ppl saying tickets are wrote for revenue. Around here we have alot of speed zones, goes from 65 to 45 quick, going from a highway into city limits and still a ways from residential areas, and if you ain't paying attention to the signs you will "grossly" exceed the speed limit like some call it. Your not meaning to speed but may have not noticed it drop that much within a few hundred feet.

Go take a defensive driving course. Not sure about your state but here in GA a defensive driving course will wipe up to 7 points off of your record and can be used once every 5 years. I had the same problem back when I was 17 years old. In GA when you're under 18 you are only allowed a maximum of 4 points on your license. I had a 3 point speeding ticket on my record from when I was 16, then when I was 17, I rear-ended someone and got a following too closely ticket that was 2 points. Before the ticket went into the system, I went and took a defensive driving course (cost me $75) and had the 3 points wiped off. I was able to keep my driver's license.

That was 10 years ago and I have learned to drive a little safer and slow down over the years.

1.) Get a lawyer and let him/her fight it.

2.) Find out if the points transfer (even if they don't, you still may want to beat it).

3.) Find out if you can take a "safe" driving class to reduce the points.

4.) In the future drive within the law.

The effects can well be beyond paying a simple fine when other costs may be involved such as insurance, loss of job (health insurance, retirement ect), quality of life of yourself and those that depend on you and those you depend on.

After talking to the student attorney today, here is the plan.
    1. Get a copy of the police report. (the lady was out of the office today)
    2. Go in before my court date and plead not guilty.
    3. Hire an attorney.
    4. Formally request a copy of the police video from the cruiser.
    5. Fight.

    LOL!

    No shit.

Not a day goes by that I don't run 5-10 over the limit for miles at a stretch.
I don't like being behind people who like to allow 10 car lengths in front of them for every 10mph, otherwise known as the 200 second rule....
I positively stroke out when I get stuck behind a "hypermiler" and I'll cut off a CHP cruiser to get out from behind them.

I haven't had a single ticket since 1991 other than a bullshit parking ticket in Walnut Creek.

So the answer isn't so much "slow the fuck down"... the answer is "Don't be so fucking conspicuous!"
    Learn to blend in.

But on the reckless issue, the one potential problem that I see is the street coming in from the south just beyond the point where the pass was started.
    So there's really multiple issues:
    Speed
S-curve in the road leading to less than clear sight lines
    Side street

Most areas here in California actually double-stripe the area leading to and coming away from any side street. We have a LOT of nasty accidents in the high desert where someone pulls over to pass and puts the hammer down, and the guy in front of them was going slow because they wanted to make a left... and they DO make that left, right across Speed Racer.

Seriously... unless the video from the Docucam shows that the cop didn't see what he claims he saw, I don't see this as a winning case.

You can usually fight by mail. My understanding of the CA rules is that the cops get paid to go to court, but they have to respond to written protests on their own time, so they sometimes don't respond to mail, but they will almost always be in court.
I got nearly all of my money from a nearly $500 ticket that way. But the gubmint is broke and they need to collect however they can.
