Fishing Line

    What stops the fishing line from destroying the paint when removing badges? I so want to get rid of all the badges on the doors and tail gate. I do have an 09. Is there anything different doing it on an 09? I want to do it but so afraid of screwing up the paint

    No, the fishing line will not mess up your paint. Heat up the badges first with a blow dryer. I did mine in my garage when it was 32 degrees. Just make sure you use a sawing action.;)

    the glue is so fresh, your badges will come off like butter with fishing line and a little heat.

    A guy at work took his TRD to a nice collision shop yesterday & had his TRD sticker & emblems removed. Charged him $50.00. All buffed & waxed.

    I used 40lb braided fishing line to saw through the glue. I tried using a blow dryer to heat the badges first but it was taking way too long.
    Using just the fishing line, it took me less than 1 minute per badge.
    Because of the way to have to hold it, the fishing line rubs more against the badge than the paint, it will not affect the paint at all.

    I took mine off without even heating them up. The line cuts between the double sided tape and the emblem. Doesn't really come in contact with paint, or very little.
    Of course it was 76 dgrees here when I did it. Ditto on the sawing action.

    Lately it has been close to 80 hear.. Once emblems are off then what. I so do not want to hurt my truck but I want to make it look good I just do not want to screw it up so I take it you run the fishing line behind the emblam and saw away out toward you..Then what to do as I read somewhere here that a new glue is being used and a shadow is left behind. Is that true? Anyone done this to an 09? Here is a couple of pictures of my ride after her first bath

    I have a 2009 and debadged it about 2 weeks after bringin it home.
    Your truck will be fine, trust me. There will be no shadows, scratches or swirls.
    When removing the badges you will be forced to hold the line at an angle that is cutting more towards the badge than the paint's surface because of the way to have to hold the line to get a grip on it, you will see when you start doing it.
    It will not be necessary for you to heat up the badges first because your truck is brand new and it's warm enough outside.

    After getting all the glue residue off with the goo gone, I washed and waxed the entire truck.

    I used weedwacker line and sprayed quick detailer while doing it. Worked perfect. Black sand pearl and no scratches.

    I have and 05 and took the badges off a year ago, just take your time. I know it seems like you are going to mess something up, but you wont.
    I used goo gone to remove any glue junk, then used 1 Grand and then a good waxing.
    No shadow at all.
    I didn't use a hair dryer, just sat it in the sun for awhile.

    Since your truck is so new... don't worry about it. It was the first thing I did to mine. I did use Mineral Spirits to clean the glue off. Wiped clean then waxed.
    Get rid of the "Stealership" front license plate though! Either find something that is a hobby (Harley) or take it off. Luckily mine didn't have anything so the front is clean.

    OP, The spary detailer acts as a lubricant on the line, helping it to cut thru.
