sound system problems

hey i drive an 06 tacoma and i'm having stereo problems. when i removed my steroe setup from my other truck it worked fine but now that i've put it in my tacoma my amp overheat light comes on. i've had a couple different places tell me my amp is done but, when i tried a buddies amp in the truck it does the same thing plus mine worked fine when we hooked it up in his cobalt. anybody got any idea what the actual problem might be? any help would be awesome

 

Maybe a wiring problem? Short on one of the wires? Good luck on the fix hopefully its something really easy to fix.

 

Where do you have the amp mounted? Does it have any kind of cooling fans? If so make sure they are not covered. I know it atleast has the cooling fins on it. make sure there is a little room around them. Also, make sure when you re wired everything you did not wire the speakers to a different impedence level. Hope that helps....

 

if two different amps are doing the same thing in the truck you might have a current issue. I would check all power cables providing power to the load. Make sure "overheat" does not mean just temp. Also, if its a digital amp there should be temp read out. I doubt that its a heat issue, two amps doing the same thing??? Check your power and grounds.

 

BTW- Cant be a short before the amp. A short in the power before the amp would not allow the amp to even power on. As for a short after on the ground, well a ground is a ground is a ground. All you can do is short to ground.

 

thanks for the help guys. I went back through the whole setup and double checked everything again and found the problem. i had my amp grounded out bellow my seat and when i went reinstall the seat it some how was causing the ground to short. have no idea how?. but anyways ya i just relocated the ground and she works like a charm. but no idea how the seat to break the ground.
