I noticed in my 2008 double cab that the radio 'maxed" out pretty easily, Sound not too loud. I don't need a "kick-butt" stereo or for it to be all that loud, usually i drive with my kids, so I don't need it that loud....but, I want to be able to hear my radio with the windows down this summer.
Since, A lot of people are having problems with the tweeter set-up. All I want to do is keep the stock radio, and maybe upgrade the back speakers, and maybe the fronts. To get just a little more sound out of the stereo.
What would be the best way around this, and will just upgrading speakers help???
Don't forget,,,I'm not going for the "concert effect"...just a little more volume.
    Thanks
    Barry

Volume usually mean amplifyer on aftermarket speakers. You can upgrade the speakers first and see if you want them amplified

I was in the same boat as you BarryJ. I have an 09 DC and I did not want a concert in my ride but wanted better sound than the OE was providing. I started with replacing the speakers (all) with Alpine 6x9s front and Alpine 6.5s in the rear. better sound but no moe volume. Without additional volume, the exterior wind noise, motor noise, etc was still drowning out the sound. With the windows down, forget about it. I too wanted to keep my OE head unit and have; however, I just installed an Alpine F300 amp (50w RMS) and it really woke up the system. Now I have the volume to hear it in any situation and the sound quality is excellent (at least I think so and that is what matters). I agree, if you need/want more volume you will need an amp.

    Thanks

    Barry J,
I should have been more clear in my previous. I put in the speakers myself but had the amp installed at Best Buy. They used a line out converter, an amp install kit, etc. They did use the stock speaker wire to the speakers.Ititially had a humming noise as the line out was behind the head unit and picking up power from the wiring bundle back there, but then moved the line out to an area behind the glove box and that solved the noise. It does power all speakers - including the tweeters as it is a 4 channel amp. I had them mount it behind the back seat on the drivers side in the storage area on the DC and I think that it came out really well (see photo).
