Painting Chrome plated steel wheels

I've got a buddy who has some chrome plated steel wheels that I'd like to put on my truck my only problem is they are chrome. Has anyone painted chrome finished wheels black? Did you sand the chrome finish off before you began painting or just scuff them and paint over the chrome?

I've been thinking of doing this too. As far as I know you just scuff them up, tape them off and paint them. I'd realy like to hear answers on this before I make the mistake..

Yeah thats basically what I've seen, scuff them up, prime them then paint them. I think I'm gonna go for it since I'm getting 5 steel wheels for $100

Just woke up. I will take pic's when I get off work later this afternoon. Weather's not really that conducive for photography now anyways. I have Mickey Thompson Classic II Wheels, and got really tired of the surface stains, and little bit of rust. The other day I saw some black rims and thought, what the hell, their mine right. I want them black. Just follow all the other guys on these truck forums on how to black out your rims and you will be fine. I didn't clear coat mine either just FYI. Good luck fellas.

Ok, so I got the problem figured out. You can't delete pic's in your attachment folder, b/c they will remove from your post. Kinda weird. Here's a couple of pic's with the before and after with one poser flexing.

It looks good. Much better with the black. Those rims are thick for steel look almost like aluminum alloy.
