Mounting sound ordnance B-8PT

Anyone try mounting one of these powered subs in place of the factory sub in a 2nd gen access cab. Opinions on whether it would sound better under drivers seat. I'm leaning toward mounting under seat.

 

I can't help ya on the access cab, but I plan to mount one behind the driver side rear seat of a crew cab next week. It looks like it will fit nicely in the rear plastic bin but there's really no mounting holes are anything on the sub. There are 2 bolt holes for the plastic bin that I plan to use. I think I'm going to make some type of metal strap that will go around the sub and secure it. Maybe put felt or rubber on the metal strap.. I dunno yet. I'll post pics next week.

As to whether it would sound better under the seat.. not sure, but it seems like you would be able to feel it a little better under the seat since it's such a small sub.

 

I saw a post where somebody mounted it behind the seat in the storage bin using metal brackets covered with adhesive felt to protect the sub from scratches. It was just clamped down. Everyone said it sounds great behind the seat. I might just put mine under the seat in order to avoid having to make some weird bracket for my setup.

 

I ended up putting it under the drivers seat and I love it. It's a snug fit so I didn't even need to clamp it or anything. Depending on how far forward you have your seat it may stick out from the back. I'm 5' 11" but I have my seat moved a bit forward in order to work the clutch easier. It's not muffled like I thought it would be. I mounted the remote gain control in the dash where an empty spot for an OEM switch would go. I am very happy with the outcome.

I'll post some this weekend when I complete the install. I mounted the sub gain knob today in a blank.. it's looks pretty sweet..

Had to take out the "guts" of the original plastic housing and fit them into the factory tacoma blank (borrowed that lovely idea from another member here). I also ground off the back of the knob a couple rows of the knobs with a belt sander to make it shorter so it wouldn't hit on the blank. fits like a glove and turns nice and smooth. good times.
