Now WHY IN THE WORLD would you want to fix something before it breaks? (especially if it is going to carry somehting important)

    That is just preposterous!

    OOOOOoooHHHhhh... Huh?

I am just giving you a hard time. I would want mine fixed too, but I bet Toyota is seeing this as a "don't have to spend money, then don't" situation.

    That is fun news.
My cannon would over load that.
How bad is it to fix?

It's approximately 500lb. For the 06 model it says 500lb max tail gate capacity.

Don't quote me, but I think I read that the max load capacity on the tailgate was 200 lbs. I can't remember if I read it in the manual, or in this forum.

Its a sad day when a tailgate will only take 200 lbs. I would say that over 90% of toyota owners weigh that much or more!.......I know I do!

500lbs max seems a little high... I weigh 150 and could feel the tailgate flex just stepping or sitting on it before I reinforced it.

Maybe 500lbs even distributed across the whole tailgate, but I doubt 500lbs down the middle. Toyota should have strengthened the center or added weight distributing braces.

Hell, it only took 1 piece of angle iron at the top of my tailgate to stop all the flexing. One at the top and now 1 at the bottom and it's rock solid. So it wouldn't have taken much from Toyota to make them stronger the first time around.
