Mine does it too, but i've figured out it is the differential needle bearing drivers side front. The reason your truck didn't shutter when the dealer had the rear shaft out wasn't because the rear shaft was out, but because it was in 4wd. Take it out and do your normal deceleration, and then throw it in 4wd and try it again, I'll bet it's gone!

Possible. If so, then likely motivated to not solve; driveshaft re-design and TSB would cost Toyota a large sum.

    12/2011.

Shudder has has improved after the dealer had it out, tested, greased, and corrected angles during reinstall as best they could. Only shakes from about 18-24mph, and less than it did. There's still a drive shaft problem.

Took my truck in last night for the 20 mph shudder and an alignment for pass. side front outer edge wear, they called me today and said the tech said there is a problem it could be the drive shaft and a Toyota rep. will be there tomorrow to look at it,they also said they could not do the alignment with the shudder because it would not be accurate, I will keep you posted.

Yes please keep us posted. I included an image from the write up on my RO (repair order) in another thread on this stuff. I want to know how Toyota USA is going to get this problem resolved. I'm not liking the shake, and the bearings in the transfer case and diff don't like it either.

What does the shudder have to do with doing the alignment? When they do the alignment the truck isn't moving!

When the rep comes to test drive your truck? Make sure he does hard accelerations. Tell him not to "baby it" off the line. The problematic shudder is caused by the driveshaft! Happens from 0-10 mph

I replaced my driveshaft and that took care of the shudder. So I'm 100% sure it's the driveshaft that is the problem!

Tell them search all the Tacoma forums, they will see that this is a problem that the majority of Tacoma's have! More Tacoma's have it, then don't!

Picked up truck tonight, they replaced the drive shaft and the shudder is gone, as for the tire wear they do not have a answer yet, they said alignment was right on, so there Toyota rep that was there is checking into it and they will get back to me.

We're in the same boat then, and we have to get Toyota USA to provide an actual fix. I did email their customer contact address online, never got a reply (as of 2 weeks ago).

I was thinking about trading my 04 and get a 2012 DC 4X4 TRD and the dealer accepted my offer. After reading about this issue, I dont know what to do. Has anyone took their truck to Scott Clark Toyota in Stallings NC for this problem??
