Aftermarket Rim and Tire question...

i did a few searches here and found that people experienced problems after changing their wheels...
if i go with a bigger rim but the same size tire as the stock, will i need to modify/fix anything? or is it pretty much a clean swap?

That depends on what you mean by "same size as stock"

If you mean the overall diameter measure will be the same...you should be fine provided the offset/backspace doesn't impinge on the brakes or any other under car items.

If you mean you are going to keep the 265/65 or whatever you've got but you are going to make them on a 17 inch rim instead of a 16 or a 18 instead of a 17 or whatever...you are going to add an inch to the tire diameter. Probably not enuf to worry...but you do need to keep it in mind. Minor trimming might need to happen.

yes, diameter the same, but wanting to do an 18 instead of a 16.... im wondering if the tire would look too small...

 

Do you have the 245 or 265 tires now?? Is your truck for offroad or street??

 

Playing with the numbers I don't think they will look to small...you'll lose some sidewall height which may make the ride a bit stiffer...but they won't be super skinny.

 

245/75/16 and just for street

 

With a 245/65R18 your tire will get about .07 inches larger (aka-it'll fit just fine) and it won't look too small IMHO.

General consensus is the odometer reads correctly but the speedometer may be off by as much as 10%.

That's a 32.61 inch tire- You might have a bit rubbing on the fender with that but I'm not sure...I think 33 is about the max without a lift....but I need to look for that answer.

My sport comes with a 265/65R17...and yours are 2 inches taller than that. I think it could work...but don't take my word on it...I'm still figuring this stuff all out!!
