    Welcome to TW!

Sloppy steering can be caused by a number of things including tires (e.g., uneven wear), lift (e.g., inability to obtain proper alignment), and steering rack bushings (e.g., worn out and "loose" feeling).

I have a 2000 Tacoma with 112000 miles on it and the steering is sloppy
I have cked wheel bearings and the rack and pinion is tight. Tire Pressure
is at 30 psi . I have a 1986 Toyota pickup with 337000 miles on it and it has
better steering control than my Tacoma. Any Ideas Thanks Mark

Around $26,000 worth of unleaded in the fuel tank.
Inspect the inner/outer tie rods, ball joints and rack bushings. Go under the truck and have someone work the steering back and forth and look for sloppy things.

The column slip joint on the inside near the firewall probably has lots of play. Its a safety feature to keep the column from sliding up in a crash. mine has lots of play, and I haven't tried to fix it.
