System in stages

Like most peeps, doing up your system in stages is usually the way it ends up going.
I am planning on replacing the head unit first (still searching options), then swap the factory speakers out with MB Quarts 6X9 component set, then add an amplifier (Hifonics 2 chan), then a sub (Apline SWR DVC 10"). I already have the sub, just have to build the enclosure.

Since the factory head unit tends to "color" the sound and processes it, do the factory speakers sound better with just an aftermarket head unit?
Just curious is all.

Anyone notice a difference after just changing the head unit?

I thought that mine sounded better with an aftermarket HU. I could better control the sound output so that it was getting good bass response at the volume I liked listening to it.

 

That was my thinking...


I am hoping with each upgrade, my sound quality goes up.

 

with a good aftermarket hu, the difference is night and day.
