My mechanic who is across the country recommended I get a tune up of the "upstream" engine area before tackling any catalyic issues.

I have only had my truck a year.. only had oil changes done and don't know its service history although any one who ever sees the underside is impressed with how clean and rust free it is. It has 160,000 miles on it

I know i need new spark plugs but other than that what else should I have done in a tuneup??? Also does anyone know what are the OEM plugs that came with this model?

    thank you!

Second that. Synthetic Oil. As for spark plug wires, the vast majority like NGK. Plugs-Denso K16TR11 I recently got AFE Pro Dry S air filter and like many others on this thread, I have no complaints so far.

I have been some what meticulous about keeping track of mpg every time I fill up. It is intriguing to see how better your engine in running via mpg after certain maintenance. When I first bought the truck, high 18s mpg was common. Prior to air filter 21.56. With pro dry s 22.23. A small fraction be it may, we shall see how tank two goes on the AFE. Keeping a little notebook in the truck has seemed to ease the lead foot a lot as well. (Its like the episode of Seinfeld, Kramer just has to see how FAR the car can go on E.)

A little carb cleaner on the throttle plate with a toothbrush helps to keep things going well on the 2.4 I have. It gets ugly in there.

I just passed 174500 on my way to infinity. :)

Is the air filter the same thing as the cabin air filter which is in the black square box left of the engine and above the intact area for the washer fluid?

If you are referring to the black box to the left of the radiator on the opposite side of the battery, YES.

The Cabin Air Filter is not in the engine compartment on any car.
It is behind the glovebox and filters "Cabin Air"

The Engine air filter is in the Box opposite the battery.
