Going to pick up a cap for my '95 Tacoma and was wondering what you all think is the best option for sealing her up nice.

The cap looks just like the picture below, excluding the skylight.

Also, what size width would I be looking for when it came to tape?

    Thanks!

They also sell specific "camper shell stripping" at home depot. Works good. If you are like me (anal), and want to keep dust out as well as rain, consider buying "Great Stuff", the expandable foam sealer and plugging all the vent holes that are underneath the bed rails. You'll have to get in the bed and look up underneath the bed rails. Kinda a pain to see and access but they are there, all the way down each side of the bed. Once you do this, its completely sealed.

Almost got a Darwin award after I did mine....slept in the back of my truck one night with the camper windows closed cause it was cold....woke up at 2am literally gasping for air...! So keep a window open if you put animals or humans back there!

I did'nt know about the vent holes:eek: thanks for the heads up NegroTundra! just figured the dust was comming from the lack of a tailgate seal.

No worries...took forever for me to figure out the cause of dust. I had sealed the tailgate and even reinforced the seal on the rear window of camper shell, but still dust. Went to the extreme of armor-alling different sections of my bed liner and drove down a dirt road. Dust was all over the wheel-wells and then I figured it out.

I think Toyota probably manufactured the bed in that fashoin for a reason...rust? So if you live in a humid climate, you may act accordingly.

Here's a great link to how to seal up the bottom of the rear hatch: http://www.bajataco.com/camper/camper_seal/index.htm

Did you run that along the bottom of the topper itself? My piece of crap topper leaks in the two corners closest to the cab. I brought it to a topper shop to see if they can seal it up but they said it will never be leak proof because there are bolt heads all along the bottom of the topper.

I really wish I can keep the water out when it's merely just raining.

What are those vent holes there for? If you seal them up are you in jeopardy of having water get trapped in the body panels which can lead to rust rot?

Well, as i said I'm sure they are there for a reason, but i can't figure out why. The body panels exit vertically (or nearly) downward with free air flow towards the ground, so there's no risk of water "pooling" or anything like that. They probably did it just for the reason that I damn near asphyxiated myself while I was sleeping in my bed. Not sure though.

I just stuck it to the top of the bed. I could'nt get the thing off by myself so i jacked up one side at a time. You can run it one continous line with no gaps
