My battery light just came on in my 4 cylinder 2005? Starts and runs fine. Any sugges

    lol....not all of us that aren't professional mechanics are morons just like not all professional mechanics know WTF they are doing.

    lol..... yea, that's what I need to do to find out my alternator is shot :rolleyes:

    Next time your in the middle of a trail 50 miles from a road...let me know how that testing is done.

    You can check AC ripple with a cheap DVM while your checking the charge rate. 1 dead diode out of 6 and the alt. is toes up any way. It really does not matter why it does not charge just that it does not unless you are skilled enough to rebuild it in your basement. A regulator alone from the dealer is probably more expensive then a rebuilt alternator from Auto Zone.

    Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    I was just looking at some prices of this and I found you get a voltage regulator for around $140-$170... and the cheapest alt is $87 w/out core charge.

    That's nuts.

    So....are you saying a 62 month battery is only good for one year?

    The battery light is an indication that there is a mismatch of voltage between the alternator and the battery. Three very common and overlooked causes are terminal corrosion, alternator belt breaking or slipping, and low battery electrolyte levels.
