    Thanks Sbeau

Mislead from the get go as I was told it was the top of the line Malibu & when I got there was a model LT 4 cyl. PW/PL & alloys were its only extras. Guess I am just really disappointed in my friend & when I asked the used car mgr about its history told it was a trade in from a personal friend. Gee lots of friends doing favors for friends huh? Another Lesson learned.

As for what was wrong with it you are probably right, no way was it low tire pressure. There was a knock that you could feel & hear right in the steering wheel when moving slightly left or right. Oh well it doesn't matter because 1, they won't let me take it to get an estimate before buying it & 2 its been a rental. There are plenty of good cars out there....for less money as you said.

I tell you what, they're not exciting cars but between our Indy and Florida fleets we have about 200 Tauruses on the road and they hold up surprisingly well. Can usually buy an '06 with decent miles for around $5500 wholesale. The same amount of money will buy you a 100,000+ mile '00 Camry or Accord, for basic transportation Tauruses and Impalas are the far better deal.

This said by a guy that has always driven imports, but when I have a friend looking for cheap transportation I always tell them they'll get a much newer and lower mile vehicle if they go domestic.

    Yeah I have toyota & a honda :D
The last car I paid 5k and is what we are replacing now, a 97 Ford Escort Wagon. It was an estate sale, 47k on odo back in may 02. That little thing runs surprising strong but its the road salt here which is killing it for she literally only drives 50 miles a week at the most! I don't believe she has 85k on it.

Will check out the cars you mentioned, thank you.
This will be her last hurrah so I want it to be nice with minimal problems certainly not a beat to crap rental. :p

Our Mom is 85 now, we got her an '00 Focus back in '03 and it's been a great little car for her. She's not supposed to be driving now but still sneaks it out occasionally and takes a spin, it's hard to take the car away from your sweet old mother.
