Don't factor in whether you live at home or not into the math. Either you can work out a good deal or you can't. You may wind up having to pay rent unexpectedly.

2006 isn't a very old truck and these things have a tendancy to run forever. The warranty is nice, but I've never really had to worry about it with my toyotas. I just bought a 2012 and they are a nice truck, but i regret ever selling my 99 taco.

    Couple things to consider....

AGAINST _ Anyone buying a new car nowadays is either not too smart or has too much money that could be put to better use. The reason we all bought Taco's is because they are great trucks that last a long time. Why would you give up on that and pay even more money for a few new features?

FOR - I too have a 2006 Taco but mine is paid off. The fact that a vehicle is 6 years old and still worth that much is amazing. One has to think that the new ones will hold their value just as well.

CONCLUSION - Keep your truck. Invest the money or go on a cruise. Cars and Trucks are an expense, no two ways about it. Getting a new one in this economy is not smart, unless you can pick money off the tree in the back yard.

Also, MODS mean nothing. You will lose any investment on that without a doubt.

if it were me, i'd ask myself if i really needed the double cab. then once that was answered go from there. i myself don't see a need for the DC, since i'm single and don't have any kids. so i would just keep the Access cab. if you really like the new front end, and interior refresh. just see what it'd take to do swaps.

i say don't do it. keep the '06 with +94k. if you got rid of it, think of all the money you paid toward it. you can't get that back.

Yeah, I decided against trading in, based on the comments here, which make a lot of sense. My truck is paid off, in great shape, and I would be getting essentially the same truck. Money better spent elsewhere. Thanks for all the replies.

Oddly enough, I recently went the opposite route. As I've mentioned on other posts here, I just traded my '05 DCSB 4x4 SR5 for a new 2012 DCSB 4x4 TRD Sport.

My 2005 had ~110K on it, and ran great, but it was in less than stellar condition in some areas. My a/c had conked out completely, and I was looking at replacing the compressor and condenser there. Had a few dings and dents that tend to come with owning a truck for 7.5 years, but nothing major...but I was starting to get quite a bit of rust on it...as anyone living here in the mid-Atlantic states can probably sympathize with.

Bottom line, I felt I was pretty much at the peak for what I was gonna get as a trade-in, and I was gonna have to spend money in one way or another (because I wasn't spending another summer without a/c), so may as well pull the trigger. Add to that the fact that I actually had the money to spend on a new vehicle right now, whereas I may not a few years down the road, and it just seemed like the right thing to do.

Neither of us probably regret our decision. The 2012 TRD sport definitely has a lot of great features my 2005 lacked...and I have no regrets.

Even in the shape my '05 was in, I got a pretty good deal on it, and thanks to the high resale value of these trucks, I'm now driving a new 2012 with a VERY affordable monthly payment that I'll probably kill off in a year or two.

That's great. What did you get for your '05 and what deal did you get on the '12?

Basically got $11,000 for the '05 (which is a little more than I thought I would *as a trade in*), the 2012 was just about 29,500 (but it is loaded).

With the extra cash I threw down, only owe about $8K on it.
