I redid the stereo in my son's (17) truck last night. As a father and son project.

The headunit, speakers, wires, kick panels are from the original install in 2010, so you might be able to find better products now.

The subwoofer and amps were bought and installed last night in 2012.
After a tuning, I am extremely satisfied with the sound. So I wanted to share my information, so that it might help out a fellow TacomaWorld member.

He wanted a system that had too much bass and still some room in the back seat of a 1998 Tacoma Extended Cab. I wanted him to have a system that sounded balanced.

The system sounded awesome with a lot of headroom and no audible noise!

The following is the comprise that we came up with:

Pioneer AVH-P3200BT In-Dash DVD Multimedia AV Receiver $350.00
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00385I7TU/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00

MB Quart Premium PVI216 6.5-Inch 2-Way Component/Convertible Coaxial Speakers $120.00 a pair x 2 pairs = $240.00
All 6-1/2" Speakers are crossed over at 100 hz.
Pair for the kick panel speakers and one pair for the rear. The highs are very musical, clear and very loud. Ran both pairs at minus -5db. They sound great now!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B05ODG/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

MB Quart Premium PVI164 6.5" Add a Woofer for Premium Crossover Speakers $140.00
Mid Bass for the front doors.
http://www.amazon.com/MB-Quart-PVI164-Crossover-Speakers/dp/B001986O7A/ref=sr_1_9?s=car&ie=UTF8&qid=1339763055&sr=1-9

Q Forms Kick Panels speaker pods bought from a TNT Car Stereo in Mobile, AL. $170.00
http://www.qlogicenclosures.com/q-products/q-forms/

I bought a lot Dynamat Extreme from TNT Car Stereo. If I removed a panel for any reason, I put Dynamat behind it. Floor, doors, kicks panels and back wall. So appx. $300.00
http://www.dynamat.com/products_automotive_dynamat_xtreme.html

Speaker wires, power wires and RCAs, I think I got them from Monoprice.com appx $200.00

Upgraded the alternator $150.00
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-Toyota-4Runner-3-4L-6-CLY-160Amps-Alternator-Reman-/150712318312?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item2317277968

Fierce Audio ported box for a 12" sub from Best Buy $60.00
Don't get this box confused with the other box that Best Buy sales that you have to put together for a sealed 12". My box has appx. 1.5 Cubic Feet of Air Space minus -.2 Cubic Feet of Sub displacement for appx. 1.3 Cubic Feet of Air Space.
This box takes up less than one jumper seat. Can also be placed in the middle. At one time we were experimenting had 3 of these boxes taking up the entire rear seat area.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Fierce+Audio+-+XED+12%22+Single+Ported+Subwoofer+Enclosure/9853887.p?id=1218186321886&skuId=9853887&st=fierce%20audio&cp=1&lp=1

Pioneer TS-W3002D2 for $120.00
Sub is crossed over from 25 hz to 100 hz.
After a lot of research this is the only sub that liked my small ported box, could handle large amount of power and didn't cost a fortune.
This sub in the above box in a small Tacoma is very loud and goes very deep. It is louder and lower than the old system with two Polk Audio DXI124 dvc with 800 Watts in two Fierce Audio boxes.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001P6ZHLK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

Wanted as much power as possible but, still fit under one seat. It was tight but, both amps fit under the driver's seat. Over 1,500 watts under just one seat. Both amps are Class D (over 80% efficient) for a little easier load on the alternator.
Precision Power P900.4 for $230.00
100 Hz and above on this amp.
Front channel speakers are in wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load.
225 x 2 for 450 watts on the front 2 channels.
Rear speakers are a 4 ohms load.
145 x 2 for 290 watts on the rear 2 channels.
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_38338_Precision-Power-P900.4.html

Precision Power P1000.1 for $240.00
Wired at 1 ohm for 1,000 watts.
25Hz to 100 Hz on this amp.
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_38335_Precision-Power-P1000.1.html

I will take some pictures this weekend and post them if anyone is interested.

Total system price for appx. 1,740 watts is $2,050.00 not including my labor!

This is some pictures of the subwoofer box slide over to the passenger side of the truck. Sometimes he also puts it in the middle of the back seats.

This Pioneer sub in this Fierce Box is at least 3 times louder and goes as deep or deeper as the JL Audio StealthBox.

The amps look great when the seat is in its normal position. The pictures were with the seat slide all the way forward or all the way back.

When the seat is in the normal position you can't see the amps.

My dad was just as bad. I moved out when I was 18 and within 2 months of him cutting grass, he put his house on the market and sold it.

My old house 2.5 acres of grass in a double fenced yard and his new house .5 acres of grass with no fences! After 11 years of me cutting 2.5 acres, he didn't cut it for 2 months

That was 22 years ago and I still remember every nook and cranny of that damn yard!!!
