Like most parents, if you don't give it to them now, you'll probably give it to them later for some reason... I'd save some for then.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
    Thank you.

I honestly think these would be the way to go, maybe $500 for now and $1500 in a savings account to be used at a later undetermined time.

Just hope the rest are GROOMS--Give them what you can afford--they will need $$$ eventually--Just saying.
Daughter WEDDINGS are EXPENSIVE--glad I only had ONE to pay for.
Offered 5k to them to elope(prior to wedding)--after the wedding was over, they wished they had taken it. Would have cost me much LESS!
    20k is about average--SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
$500--should be enough for the groom--let them splurge a little on the honeymoon. After all--they will most likely not leave the BEDROOM!!

If I ever find a nice, decent, reasonably normal, fun-loving Tacoma driver to marry, I think I'm eloping. Jeebus. $26K. It's one day. You should never pay interest on something longer than you'll have use of it, so those party favors and table cloth rentals don't go on the credit card.

I think $500 would be a nice gift, but if you can swing more, why not do it? I think $2K is a lot though. I dunno, I've always live in the sticks though, living doesn't cost much out here.

Maybe compromise with your wife. $1000 or $1250 perhaps?

so true..we have 2 kids boy and girl...i think my wife would do anything for either of them where as I am more conservative in the financial aspect. She is already on a diet to lose weight for the wedding, excited about the shower, can't wait to pick out a new dress, where as I am selfish and concerned what college football game I will be missing on that sat. But one thing is hard for me to understand is that like I said when I got married my dad gave me 50 bucks I just can't wrap my brain around these prices for weddings.

20 grand for a wedding is incredible I just can't see paying that much for one day. If I were rich yes but I am not.

Just buy them a toaster. When we got married we for damn sure didn't spend 20 grand on our wedding. But we did most of it our selves. Hell my wife cut our cake herself (which seemed to offend some of the other women) and we stayed and cleanrd up after the wedding and reception. I know that we didn't spend much more than 4 or 5 grand on the whole thing between both families, not including travel which people had to pay for themselves. The biggest cash gift we got was from my wife's grandfather and I think it was $500.

I got married in February. My wedding cost us (not my Father in Law) ~ $35,000. We paid for it ourselves. My FIL paid for the first $1,500 of the rehearsal dinner as a gift. My parents, who were going to pay for the rehearsal until the FIL bitched about where his $1,500 gift/contribution was going (limos, hotels, or whatever else we were using it for), paid for the remainder of the rehearsal and then gave us a $5,000 gift.

We went the following weekend for a 4 day weekend to Disney, where we also got engaged, and are just now planning our honeymoon to France for 10 days.
