First Performance Upgrade!

Well I decided to go with the 77 series K&N intake because it passes smog where as the 63 doesnt in CA. Im also stoked to be geting Doug Headers along with a flowmaster 50 catback. Parts are supposed to be in on tuesday...cant wait!

 

you should notice a decent difference in performance and mileage(if you can keep your foot outta the gas just a bit), and an awesome difference in sound. put up pics and a soundclip for us after the install!!

What do you think about those headers? any noticable difference in power?

 

I really like them...It really sounds like a truck now and there is a good increase in power. Im stoked.

 

I wasn't too impressed when I had my headers installed. It didnt seem to be much different. I added on the URD MAF Sensor and even without mapping it, I can feel the difference. I think the ECU was struggling before and though I wasnt getting a check engine light it was running hotter then normal. Now everything runs smooth and awesome low end power.

 

Ya, the MAF Sensor sounds like a good idea. Are there other companies that make them or is this only a URD product. Also, do you know how it effects the warranty and smog.

 

Nice choice on the K&N, but man! You shouldn't have passed on the 63 Air Charger. I live in CA too, but it wouldnt have been an issue with the smog. The 63 series is amazing, its sounds great and I gained 18 hp off of it. Greatest performance mod for its cost for Taco's right there.

 

The 77 sounds great also and I dont think it is that much of a difference is HP compared to the 63. Where did you come up with the 18 hp?

 

Friend's dad owns a performance parts center. He has something that works out a graph with peak hp, torque and other cool stuff.

 

got cut off there.. but its a cool machine. not sure exactly how accurate it was, but i think that k&n claims something from 15-20hp gain too

 

I thought I read somewhere on the K&N Website that it was supposed to give you about 10 HP or so...Im sure that the 63 is a little better performace wise but the main reason I got the 77 was just because of smog. As of now the 77 passes and the 63 doesnt but whatever it is, im still happy with my setup. Way off topic, but how was the surf your way on the recent big wednesday.

 

yeah the differences are the 77 has metal tubing vs. the 63's hard plastic and it comes with an aircharger. the surf was big.. but nothing huge. i cant remember when it was but the last big storm in socal brought us huge swell

No this is a URD Made product. Your other choice would be to get a unichip. I didnt feel like dropping another 800 on that. The other thing is that you can program the MAF Sensor Calibrator with a laptop through a serial port. Im working on that part myself. You just need a tool to give you A/F ratio and some other data, then you can dial it in. Im not sure about the smog stuff and the warranty. That might be a question for URD directly. I didnt ask because its really a pretty easy mod, and can be easily removed if need be. The instructions are very clear.
