I just ordered this Pioneer AVH-P4400BH head unit along with 629I and 609CS Infinity Kappa door speakers. I plan on installing myself. I would love to know where to pick up a silver textured metra double din kit? Also, if you guys have any tips, advice, or other threads on installing this unit that would be great. I would love for you to share some of that wisdom. It has been several years since I have ripped a truck apart. Thanks in advance!

    Various notes:
    • Google up Schosche Tacoma dash kit - Amazon, eBay, on-line elec sellers
    • Also want a wiring kit for the HU, keeps you from having to cut the factory connectors off.
    • Consider getting a Metra interface unit if you want to integrate the steering wheel controls into the HU.
    • Video bypass - if you want to view video while driving, google up Pioneer video bypass - you can go the cheap route and wire in a relay ($4 + wire/connectors), eBay has a micro-relay ($10) that is smaller and easier to fold into the space behind the HU, or a PAC TR-7 ($40) is a more expensive solution to a relay.
    • Speaker wiring - you need to decide if you are going to use the existing OEM speaker wires, or run your own. If you are just running off of HU power you don't really "need" new wires, but maybe you want them. If you use the factory wires there is also a wiring kit to plug into the stock door plugs vs tapping/cutting the stock plug.
    • iP*/USB cable - decide where you want the iP*/USB cable routed to and route that while everything is apart. Decide if you want iP* video as well as you need a Pioneer specific cable to route video to the HU. If you just want audio, a regular USB should work fine.

Lurkin...You are awesome! A "grocery list" (so to speak) of items to check off as I go is just what I was looking for. Your wisdom is much appreciated!

Wisdom could be the common sense to apply experience and knowledge. So having both experience and knowledge leads to wisdom...or could wisdom be knowledge from experience? Ha-Ha Either way you have experience and knowledge and I appreciate that.

I'm going to need speaker wire to hook up the front component speakers and crossovers to the head unit. I will use the factory harness for the rear door speakers. Also on the grocery list is speaker adapters.

You don't "need" speaker wire for the components if you're running off of the HU power, you can still use the factory door wires. You'll only need to run new wires if you add an amp (even then "need" is a strong term).

When you mentioned speaker adapters, are you talking about the wiring adapters, or the plates that adapt the speakers to the stock door mounts?

I did forget to note the speaker adapter plates which you'll need to purchase or make.

I am not sure how to hook-up the crossovers (that come with the speakers) without running new wire from the HU? And yes, I am talking about the speaker adapter mounting brackets that adapt the speakers to the doors.

Just hook the stock wires to the crossover just like you would if you were connecting them to a speaker, then wire the woofer and tweeter to the crossover. Or run new wires...

The bypasses are all basically the same for the Pioneer line, at least for the 4200-4400 that I am familiar with, so buy on price and reviews. These do nothing more then pass the parking brake line to ground after a delay when power on is sensed.

As for the iPhone cable I would ensure that Pioneer supports that cable for your iPhone for your model HU. They do have a habit of changing the supported hardware and the cables slightly. Easiest way is to buy what Pioneer recommends unless you find a reputable source that has used one of the others.

    I think that I have a CD-IU200V for my 4300 though.

Might want to do some search on the Schosche vs. the Metra dash kit if you haven't already. The Metra uses the stock metal brackets, has a smooth finish, and the HU fits in at a bit of an angle. The schosche uses it's own plastic mounts, does fit in flat and matches the stock silver color and texture. I think that's right on the Metra, I have the Schosche so not experience talking on the Metra.
