I was wondering if changing the intake to a CAI and the exhaust to a free flow exhaust system change the air fuel ratio or does the EFI system have the ability to compensate for these changes. I come from a motorcycle background where changing the air intake and exhaust on a fuel injected bike requires that you remap the fuel injection system or install another ECM or piggy back system to modify the air fuel map to correct the air fueld ratio. Opening up the air intake and exhaust can cause it to run lean which could damage the valves and so forth. Anyone have any indepth knowledge on this for the Tacoma, especially a 2nd Gen Tacoma like the 2006 model. I would think the O2 sensors would only be in a loopback mode during idle and steady state cruising and the system would go into closed loop during hard acceleration, thus causing a problem with there is more air coming in and more exhaust getting out faster. I have seen wideband sensors and aftermarket ECM units for bikes that do perform a realtime closed loop system.

The ECU will adapt, no need for reprogramming on the Tacoma. I know what you're talking about on bikes, added a Sato exhaust to my Hornet and had to install a PCIII to make it run right. I have both the TRD CAI and exhaust on my truck and have no driveability issues, runs great and I highly recommend both, excellent quality and easy install.

I haven't noticed any loss of torque or low end power, but do notice an increase in power from about 3500 to close to redline. It pretty much feels the same down low except for being louder, then gives a real surge that wasn't there before.

The sound is definitely much different, the CAI howls when you stomp on it, the exhaust is very throaty and the two together totally change the character of the truck. Hard to keep my foot out of it, sounds too good, great fun blipping the throttle on downshifts and running it hard up through the gears. Might be too loud for some, although lots of guys go with much louder exhasts. I don't think I'd want any louder than the TRD, it's nice and deep but not obnoxious.
