installing screen, anything to lookout for?

i am going to install my DNX6990HD H/U on friday, is there anything specific to 05+ (i have a 2011) tacomas when installing a screen?

I am going to bypass the parking brake switch so "the passenger" can use the Navigation while driving. I have spoke with a friend who is a big car audio guy and he said that i just need to ground that wire.
Another friend mentioned a VSS that he had to put on a switch on his car, Do the tacomas have this?

For those who have installed a screen with navigation, and/or bluetooth with a wired mic, where did you mount the GPS antenna and the mic?

I want to keep everything clean and out of the way, but do not want to take apart half the truck to route a 20gauge wire ha!

 

No, you will not need a VSS wire for the Kenwood. Grounding the parking break wire completes the video bypass.

The Kenwood that you're installing should be pretty straight forward. The only pain in the ass would be if you had the factory amplified JBL stereo, which you didn't mention. Other than that, I would mount the microphone hooked around the center of the upper console (the part with the temp gauge/dome lights/ sunglass holder). You might want to bend the microphone mount a little bit to get a nicer, tighter fit. I usually just mount the navigation antenna as far forward on the dash board, as close to the passenger side corner as you can get it unless you feel like finding a creative hidden spot on the under side of the dash that wont compromise reception.

 

i keep forgetting about the JBL system as an option, but i do not have that.

is there enough open area behind the dash to "snake" the antenna and microphone through without having to remove a whole lot of stuff?

 

well i got bored and installed the screen today, went together fairly smooth and i must say, the stock speakers can get LOUD and still clear once the HPF was adjusted to keep the bass out of the speakers. i think the addition of 2 8"s will hold me over for a while since then i can take even more low Freq. out of the door speakers and still get a full/ rich sound

i love it so far, the only thing i goofed up on is the microphone for the bluetooth calling... not sure why that is not working just yet... but its not a big enough reason for me to pull everything back apart just yet.

i will go snap some pictures later today, but i ran the GPS antenna right at the base of the windshield in front of the steering wheel. ran the mic up the a pillar and stuck it right by the headliner pointing down to the driver.
