Painting grill

Would like to paint the black portion of the grill to colormatch my superwhite truck. I have adhesive promoter, paint and clear coat. any tricks or tips you can advise would be appreciated. BTW , I picked up an extra grill in case I srrew it up real bad.

 

And since you've got a '12, it's gonna be tough. The honeycomb portion of the grill is going to be hard to paint.

You'll need to sand the black areas with some 500 grit sand paper. Rule of thumb: Paint doesn't stick to shiny. So get it nice and dull with the 500. The honeycombs are gonna be tough to sand... Use a combination of elbow grease, 500, and red scotch-brite pads to get them scuffed.

Once scuffed, I'd hit it with primer. Several light coats, ensuring you get inside all those little honeycombs.

Once primed, sand it again with some 600, and a gray scotchbrite pad.

Then apply your white paint. (light coats). Then clear.
