I didn't see a thread like this but I like to hear peoples hunting or fishing stories. It makes me think of my own time in the woods.
    Here's mine:
I've been grouse hunting with the same guy for about 10 years. We always go up north here in Wisconsin where there are thousands upon thousands of acres of paper mill land. We can hunt all week long and not run into another person. Anyway...this past year we had hunted hard all week and had some pretty good luck but not as much as in the past. The last day was very cool and overcast but not much wind, we had found a logging trail that looked like it hadn't been used much in a long time. We decided to take the dogs out (both pointers) and walk the trail to see if it was really as good as it looked. We must have walked at least a mile and a half with no luck but as we rounded the next corner the trail opened up into the most perfect meadow I've ever seen. It was about a 5 acre meadow with woods surrounding all sides, a small tree island in the middle and 2 foot high prarie grass all around. We have NEVER seen birds in terrain like this but we were not going to give up yet. We started working the edge of the woodline with the dogs but the dogs kept wanting to wander farther into the grass than we thought they should. No matter what we did, the dogs just kept crying to go into the grass. We both decided to just let them go and see what they got into. I remember telling my buddy, "Wouldn't it be cool if they both just pointed in this grass? Kind of like pheasant hunting but in the forest.". As soon as the words had left my mouth, both dogs were frozen in 2 spots about 30 feet apart. We both looked at each other thinking "no way is this for real". If you've ever hunted grouse, you know how fast they can go from zero to top speed (about the blink of an eye). All I can remember for the next 5 minutes was grinning and shooting as the biggest covy of grouse I've ever seen got up and fell. I don't even remember reloading or what the dogs were doing but I will remember that day for the rest of my life!
    Now, your turn.:)
