Looking for a cheap but effective torque wrench. I understand "cheap" is a relative term so I'll put it out there that I would be looking at the $30 range.

    Any suggestions?

Yeah I was looking at them.

Was just wondering if the first time I torqued on something serious if it would shatter

i have always bought craftsman, never broke one, but i dont use it super often. However i hear if you see a snap-on truck around, they will sell to the public and have good tools. I think they will rebuild them for you also ( not for free though). I hear they beat the craftsmans any day of the week.... but still not the best

That's about all you're gonna get for 30$ IMO.

I'd love a snap on, but for that price I could buy sliders and groceries for a week.

    $30?

I wouldn't trust a $30 torque wrench on anything more than lug nuts.
There is nothing wrong with Craftsman tools. They are reasonably priced, and hold up just fine to normal consumer-level maintenance needs.
Not sure I'd use one for daily work for hire... but I wouldn't trust my head's spark plug threads to an HF wrench.

I used snap on at work and there awesome exspecially their digital ones but thats just a little over $30 lmao, but in the garage ive had a hf 5-75 ft lb for about 3 years it works good enough I probably use it once or twice a month ive never tested it to see how accurate it is but nothing ever fallen off of broke because of it

I would go Husky or Kobalt because they still have a lifetime warranty. Craftsman stop their lifetime warranty on their torque wrenches some time ago.

    10-80 lb-ft torque wrench for $80.

I have a snap-on guy that comes to my work every week. $150 for the fullsized breaker bar type and they'll calibrate them for free as much as you want, you just need to give them a heads up so they can bring what they need to do it, or however you have access to a snap-on rep or truck or someone to do it for you

Husky or Craftsman for a less expensive one.

Snap On if you wanna spend big money.

For the price range the HF is your best bet if you are only going to use it on occasion. and i just got a coupon from them for the1/4, 1/2 or 3/8 drive for 9.99 with a limit of 4! so you could get one in all 3 sizes for the 30 dollar budget. If you cant find a coupon let me know i will send you one.
