98 Tacoma Ignition switch will not let me turn engine

Recently when I tried to start my truck I was able to put the key in the ignition and turn the key to the on position, but that was it. I was not able to turn the ignition to start to crank the engine. It felt like there was either something blocking it or the actual mechanism was gunked up. Any suggestions on how to fix or on what needs to be replaced?

My '96 Altima steering wheel lock prevented my ignition from turning, possibly a similiar problem. Try:

1. Put your key in and turn to ACC ON (so that radio, dash, etc turns on)
2. Turn Steering Wheel left-right-left to free it up
3. Turn key to Ignition on

 

Sounds like you're going to need to get a new tumbler and have it rekeyed.
