Antenna in Carwash?

I want to take my 06 Taco through a carwash to get all the salt off the underbody--its caked on with sand from several long road trips this winter. I am concerned about breaking the antenna off. Can I just unscrew the antenna before taking it through? Thanks for answering my stupid question.

Yeah it just screws off. But if there is still salt on the raod and stuff then you might want to try and cover up the hole. Just in case there was salt on the bristles

 

Went through with mine, no problems. Taking it of was too much of a hassle.

question along the same lines as OP: What about going thru a carwash with a tonneau and window visors?

 

Word, I mean, getting out, unscrewing the antenna, sitting while it's washed, and then getting back out to screw it in again is such a huge PITA.

 

is it a brushless or a regular car wash? i have all brushless where i live and i always leave my antenna on.

 

A car wash tore the antenna out of the fender on my brothers Dodge. The car wash paid half of the repair bill claiming the cause was the antenna ball he had attached to it. He now removes it going through the car wash.

 

Fine for me with both but it doesn't clean for shit under the visors. Does seem to get soap, though.

 

A few weeks ago I was hearing a rattle coming from that passenger side and thought great, I have that infamous dash rattle thing going on, later that day I was washing the truck in my driveway and bumped the antennae and it rattled back and forth, it was so loose that it was about to fall off.

Car wash I go to has an attendant that takes it off prior and one at the other end that puts it back on. They use a rubber coated adjustable wrench.

I can see where it could be a hassle.

How do you get gas in the tank with all that twisting of the gas cap....You must be exhausted.

 

I just take mine off because I also have to take off the one for the VHF radio.

 

As so often happens when someone asks a question on this wonderful site, I have received conflicting opinions about whether to remove the antenna or not. I am now more confused than ever. Thanks all.

I had my stock antenna broken by a brush carwash. Snapped it right off just above the base. I ALWAYS remove the antenna now. I bought a shortie antenna but I still remove it. Actually the shortie worries me even more than the stock one. The stock one has some give, the shortie has no give. If it gets tangled it is likely to destroy my fender before it ever breaks. It only takes 5-10 seconds to remove it. No tools required. Better safe than sorry. Actually I try to use only brushless washes now.
