I have an 06 Tacoma I bought new with the 4 cyl & 5 speed and it has 17000 miles on it. Should I change the antifreeze and serpentine belt because of the time or leave it ? Also what mileage do the front wheel bearings need to be packed or are they sealed bearings ? Thanks for your help

Antifreeze shouldn't need to be changed for a long time. Refer to your user manual for the intervals. Serpentine belt should be routinely inspected, but don't replace it unless it's worn. At 17,000 miles, nothing should need replacing except oil/ filter.

I think you have a good point OP just because you have low mileage doesn't mean everything is in the condition it should be, your serpentine belt could not be worn, but could be dry rotting, like tacomabuzz says, best to get someone to look at it, but I would think it'd be fine for a good handful of years, i wouldn't think your antifreeze needs to be done either, I have an 06 as well, and have 95000 on mine, and I haven't done anything other than filters, oil, and spark plugs

I wouldnt have thought the water pump would be leaking either but I noticed it is when I was changing the oil. So much for the "use Toyota antifreeze, it makes the water pumps last longer " theory. The one on my old beater 87 4x4 made it 90,000 miles. Oh well, it is what it is, thanks for the help

hopefully someone more technical chimes in, but i'm really surprised your waterpump is leaking, and that you can tell just by getting under there, I didn't even realize those things are on the scheduled maintenance, i woulda thought you'd get like 200 or 300K miles out of one

I spilt some oil putting it in and was under it wiping it up and noticed the damp pink powder & leak at the water pump weap hole and that the coolant level was down about 3 inches. I couldnt believe it ! Its just starting to go. Back in the mid 70s I was a Ford dealership mechanic when there was no linework in S Florida off and on for 6 years before moving to Montana for work. Crappy way to make a living even then when things were simpler
