I'm going to do a 4" spindle lift on it :D , but the tires rub in the front right now because of the backspacing on the rims (4.5"). if you go with the stock backspacing they won't rub

So my speedo reading will be accurate but my odo will be off. Clocking more or less miles?

This is the tire I'm looking to buy. Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor 265/75/15 on my stock TRD off road rims. Here are the spec's taken from tire rack, Load Index 114 = 2640lbs (1200kg) per tire
    Speed Rating “T” = 118mph (190kph) 114T
    SLMax Load = 2,601 lbs
    Max psi = 44 psi

Since the odometer is based off of the speedometer, wouldn't they both increase in accuracy with the bump to 265/75R16 (265/70R17)?

The Wrangler SilentArmors handle quite well on pavement. I doubt you'll notice any difference.

I thought the same thing too when I was told this, but apparently while the odometer is mechanical, the speedo is electronic (or vice versa), so apparently they are independent of each other.

Ok let me see if I understand. My odo will be off got that. But if I drive 3000 miles what will the odo read? 2700 or 3300 or am I missing something.

If going from a 265/70/16 to 265/75/16 your odo will read like 3.3% less than what you have actually driven. So for 3000 actual miles your odo will read 2901, and since our speedo is a bit fast anyway it will pretty much make it right on the money. At least that is my understanding, if I'm wrong someone will correct it . Here is a calculator if you want to check other sizes: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php

No because the speedo reads 2 MPH high & the odo is correct with stock size tires.
No sway problems running LT255/85/16s. The stiffer sidewall compensates for it being taller.

    Round tires
one is off driveshaft revolutions and the other is off tire rotations

speedo and odo are independent of each other

if you have Larger than stock tires your ODO will read LESS than what you've actually traveled. which is a plus for resale because it will show less miles than the truck has actually traveled.

265/75s do a good job of correcting the factory speedo being a little slower than actual speed.

When I changed my tire size to 265/75/16's, the odo and speedo changed so your correct. Now they are closer to the correct numbers.

Bigger tire = more ground covered per rotation, so if you get at 5% larger tire, 3000 miles on the ODO would be roughly 3150 miles of actual driving.

The speedo is correct, but the odometer is actually showing less miles than you traveled.

Yes, but the odo was off too with the stock tires so odo is closer to the correct distance now.

I guess you did not see that I was complimenting how cool I thought your truck looked. And I added this is not my truck but I like what the owner has done to it. However that is me in my avaitar and yes that is the Original Batmobile.

This = Win. When I upgraded my tires to 265/75/16 from stock I noticed a pretty significant drop in my mpg. I knew I would lose some mileage just because of the weight of the tires.. After adjusting it based on the tire size increase, my mileage is much better than I initially thought... and the odometer showing less is just an added bonus.
