16 or 17 inch wheel

Okay I have been doing a lot of research on wheel and tires and need some input and pictures of 2 different wheel tire combos

Wheel is a MT Classic Lock
I am going with either
16 inch wheel with a 33 inch toyo open country MT
or
17 inch wheel with a 33 inch toyo open country MT

I have a 3 inch lift on my 2012 tacoma TRD off road

Price is not a factor.

What do you think and does anyone have pictures of each combo.
with a 33 will it look a balloon with a 16 inch?

 

check my pics. i have 17's and 33s. i want 16s tho. hate big rims.

 

do you care about on road performance?
then get 17's - less tire is better on road

do you care about offroad performance?
then get 16's - more tire is better off road

if your looking to see what tire/wheel combo just looks cool - shoot me in the head now please

 

The width of the tire also plays a big part on whether it looks like a balloon. If you go with 16", you can get LT255/85R16 which weighs 60 lb each.

Open Country M/T selection is more limited in 17" size, and all of them weigh around 70 lb each.

Im not asking what looks cool haha. We all know 22 inch rim with a toyo open country MT 33X12.50R22LT 109Q E/10 looks the best. Bahahahahahah. Who the eff does something like that.


I have the Toyo size chart i have been looking at and I will either go with the

LT295/70R17 128P E/10 (33X11.50R17) on the 17 inch
or for the 16 inch
LT255/85R16 123/120P E/10 (33X10.00R16)
LT285/75R16 126P E/10 (33X11.50R16)

If i was going for pure looks And Im not I would Run a BBS RW 18 inch powder coated black with open country MT LT275/70R18 125P E/10 (33X11.00R18)

 

This is my first 4x4 truck and I would like to do a lift and get wheels and tires.

I'm thinking of going with a 2" lift, nothing crazy, just to give it a little more ground clearance.

Question: if someone wanted to have a combination of good on-road characteristics and good to decent off road capabilities (mud, dirt roads, snow) what size wheels and tires would make a good match?

Doing my research now and haven't found any good info on my particular question.

Go with a 16 inch rim. Any bigger and your just going for looks. But hey looks are not always a bad thing

 

I am wondering if I should go with a 17" rim for a spare set, and use them in summer, and use my 16" for winter. I would like to have a spare set, and came across used 17's for sale off of a trd. The 5 spoke with machined face. Now they say they have rough spots on them, but hold air fine. I was thinking about getting them and blasting and powder coating them. I'm not really off roading so that's not an issue. Now I have no idea what tire sizes are comparable to the stock 16's that are on it now, so the gearing isn't off too much. Is it a pain in the ass to switch to 17's or is it really no big deal? If I do get them, should I use the 17's for winter, and 16's for summer, or vice versa?

 

That 295/70R17 tire won't fit with aftermarket Uniball uca because of the added caster... even with a cab mount chop.
