Or do a cap with a wrap around rack , same concept as the lumber rack over cap picture I posted earlier but just change the design of the rack to suit

Or somehow reinforce the topper from inside - it wouldn't have to be much and could be pretty unobtrusive.

The RCC already has a reinforced roof system , you could do a skeleton inside of that , but it would take up space , I would do it on the exterior , this could serve double duty for ladder / lumber / kayak hauling too

    Thanks oz

The unobtrusive part would be key. I think those racks that go around and then on top of shells are very obtrusive and just downright ugly in come cases. Reinforcing from the inside seems like it could be doable. Hmm...

EDIT: The other thing I thought of was to get a shell, make a full length rack that has the RTT sitting half on the shell and half on the cab. Displace the weight a bit...

Dont do that, the bed and cab flex differently enough that stresses will be put on the RTT.

I'll post my pics in a sec.

Exactly, those values are always a static load.

My setup, taken from a camping run up to Oregon last week.

I bent up the hoops out of 1" x 1/8" wall round steel tubing. I made the stringers out of 1" x 1" x 1/8" wall square tubing. I thought having flat surfaces might be nice to mount stuff to. The Bestop mounts on top of the 3" wide base plate. There are 4 bolts on the inside that clamp the soft top and rack through the top of the bed rails.

The height matches the height of my roof rack perfectly.

I mounted an old wire basket up there for the trip, to carry wood. It would also work great to carry a canoe or kayak.

Rims and tires to be coming soon :D

Damn. That is sweet. And you think that metal would be strong enough to support ~500lbs?

Not trying to come off as my usual dick self , and definitely not dissing nat's set up because it is most definitely sweet , just wondering why that set up appeals to you but the same type of rack over a cap does not .

Dick!:) .... Really though I think it is because that rack doesn't extend past the sides of the truck, it looks a little tidier. The racks I have seen with hard caps come outside the sides of the truck. Unless we are talking about two different set-ups which is entirely possible.

After reading that I sound like a pretentious artist girly man. I guess I'm just a tad particular about what I like on my truck.

    Thanks oz

I don't see why not, its not gonna break, might deflect a little, but the weight will be distributed on the rack and the load won't be concentrated in the middle of the hoops.

I asked my 12 year old son, then it dawned on me. :D

Where in BC are you? As a teen in the late 80's I started making canoe trips through various parts of BC with my Dad. Great times. Last time I was in Kelowna, I was mightily impressed with the models/waitresses at the restaurant I was at. :D

The 400 lbs limit is for when driving.

I would have no issue putting 1000 lbs on mine if it was not going to move.

Here is my Leer 180CC with a rack.

I got in 08 and just had to put new rams for the back window. Other than that it has been great.
