i have seen them all in person and they are hideous lol. all joking aside when you are on a dark road or in an open area you want your lights as wide, intense and uniform as possible and if you can swing it having some pretty colors in the cutoff.

these lights don't throw very well and they sure aren't wide at all with the projectors that come installed in them. now like the other guy had mentioned if you took them apart and retrofitted in a quad set up or even just one in each light with a respectable projector from trs like the mini H1 or fx-r or s2k you would have all the light you need.

this is all of course probably not easy to do as i have never seen a complete write up on such an upgrade but, i think it would be pretty cool if you could pull it off.

Thanks Rich....I'll pm him or something....I did see an different thread with him mentioning his retrofit, didn't see any details or explanations.
Maybe I'll go ahead and do it and post the mod.....at least I still have my stock headlights to use in the mean time

Ya, I'd like to see it.

I like the look of his lights, but can't handle the pattern from the eBay lights

if i where you i would call one of the installers like customlightz.com or lightwerkz.com and get a new set and have them mod them for you.

color mod among others with certain projectors it can make a drastic difference others not so much. but, regardless its the same gear trs sells as they buy direct from them but, have those guys spacing and modding them. bjorn is really good at this.

the cut off pic i posted up of the ebay lights imagine being on a dark road there is going to be so many artifacts in the beam it will actually become distracting. the set of these i saw had dark spots right in the center and to the left and right of the beam pattern where it should have been much more uniform.

maybe this is not a big deal to others but, it annoyed the hell out of me. you never really see anyone posting up the cutoff pics from the ebay lights so if you have them post them up.

I'll do a write up and post before and after I do my retrofit.....I will have to wait a bit before i buy some decent projectors....a bit out of cash at the moment.

But in the mean time, I think I'll install my stocks and start the disassembly of my aftermarket halo projectors.

    Moose responded in another thread.

    Not worth it.

He went through two eBay housings and said it was a pain.

yeah I read that too......I'm gonna do it anyway! I'm pretty good mechanically, I am a mechanic by trade (commercial aircraft), so I think that it wouldn't be too bad....I'll just take my time since I do have my stock lights for now.

I'm still going back and forth on the H1 or FXR.

FXR, I'd have to have Ants do the retro and it's $750.

H1 I can do myself since there's no experimentation with the aiming... I'd want to buy new lights anyways since mine are showing their age.

Yeah...we'll see....if nothing else, I'll start the BHLM on the stocks and retrofit the projectors on them after the aftermarket ones fail! Good to have options!

both of them are pretty close in terms of performance. the fx-r nudges ahead slightly in width. i ran both on my truck and i think the mini H1 is very close they are just a little more narrow and don't have anywhere near the color the fx-r has in stock form. if you where to buy them from a retrofitter like lightwerkz or customlightz have them color mod them then they are basically the same.

at that point the only real difference is the fx-r has a foreground limiter where as the H1 does not so if your lifted the fx-r imo is better as they reserve the light thats being wasted in the foreground and throw it out further and a little more intense. for stock height trucks or trucks that are close to stock height i'd go with the mini if your lifted fx-r hope this helps a bit.

some of these projectors can be very different in terms of performance but, trs really did a nice Job with the H1 they are very respectable imo.

I think I'm going with the H1's....I just wish TRS had a group buy on....I missed the boat on the last one....it just ended!! :(

Won't be lifting. Running a 5-lug and if anything might be dropping it an inch or so.
I really don't care about color variance at the cutoff... I'd rather have it as low-key as possible.

Sounds like the H1 with BHLM is the way to go.

if you go with mini's do the H1's or do fx-rs your lights will then be better than most every oem system currently being offered no joke. this is going to be a cool retrofit as i only know of one other guy that has done this.

i like you actually like the look of the headlights but the projectors that come in them are just horrible lol. if you swap in a nice set of projectors modded H1's or fx-rs you would be like 7 or 8 lanes wide and very pretty colors overall a really sharp set-up.

make sure and take some good pics lol i think at this point we are all subbed for the action.

agreed. the H1 will be excellent on a lowered truck they fill the foreground with very bright light and they are still wide as hell out of the box like 6 or 7 lanes wide of useable light.
