I am new here just picked up a 2012 4x4 Access Cab TRD Sport. Quick question when shutting the doors, seems to be coming from the rear door there is a tinny rattle/clang, sounds like a metal spring clanging when the door is shut. Has anyone had this sound and if so is there an easy fix to lessen the noise or know where its coming from? Possiblr fix is some dynamat in the rear door or something?

    Thanks,

Mine too and mine is a 2010. Since both sides do it, I thought it was just the sound of it. No sound when all doors are shut and while driving....*shrugs*

    Clazzio seat covers,
This is my thought on this.

With no pillar or cab between the two doors I don't think you are going to get that solid sound we are used to.

I experience the same on my '10. While driving there have been no noise issues which so ever.

Mine also sounds like that, no rattles while driving though. Thought it was the seat belt at first but there is a bumper on the bulkhead to quiet that

I've had two AC tacomas and they all did that to varying degrees.

However, I did add some Raammat and ensolite to the doors this past weekend and it made a huge difference. It still rattles a bit - there are really long linkages that fit loosely in their hangers, after all. But, the door is much more solid sounding and it the rattling doesn't resonate.

I assume that is similar to Dynamat, Was it a problem removing the inside door panels?

It is. It's way cheaper, though. There are a few guides on TW as to how to do it.

The panel comes off easily enough. You'll need a torx drive (I think it's T30, but could be wrong) Putting it back on is tricky, but manageable.

The rattle comes from the bottom linkage that connects the latch actuator to the latch itself. There might be other loose-ish parts, but that seems to me to be the main culprit.

There isn't much to be done with it - it needs to move freely after all - but the sound proofing did seem to help quite a lot.
