Dealer called me and told me he lied about the vented windoors. Dammit. I opted for standard windoors instead. I've got some ideas on how I can vent the shell without the vented windoors.

They use both, cap tape and clamps. Dealer told me in his experience that he was confident that after a shell has been on for 1.5 years or more with cap tape that the tape itself could in fact hold the shell on (not recommended though). He mentioned to me that if he tried to remove the shell with a forklift without breaking the cap-tape seal after that long that it would probably crack or rip the shell. He said they have to get in there and use their backs and and sort of work one corner and slowly peal the shell off.

I'll probably spring the the double bulb seal.

They sell kits for sealing the tailages. Here is one I found with a quick Gizzogle search: http://www.amazon.com/Lund-30002-Genesis-Tailgate-Seal/dp/B000COL4A4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

What? They couldn't get the vented windoors for the short bed? Friggin mutts. Dunno if Leer could either, since I have the long bed. Man, that's a letdown a little bit. BTW I measured the vent on the Leer 180 windoor and it's 25.25"L X 7.25"H. The Black Lab already pushed the screens out on both sides, but at least she can only get her head out. I carry the roller tool to fix screens, so it only takes a few seconds to put the bead back into the groove. She's a major knucklehead, but still a good dog.

    Thanks for the link.

You're welcome. :) Leer doesn't do vented windoors on the shortbed (5') either. Only Sungtop does it. I'd have a Snugtop already but Snuggy doesn't make a mid rise cap for the 5' bed, and having more space was the more dominant feature for me. The reason I went with A.R.E. is because the windoors fit a little better in the recess. (Thanks for letting me know that.)

When it's all said and done I don't think it's going to matter too much, as long as it works. I just want to get my family outdoors and having fun. :D

I guess they did their marketing surveys and figured there wasn't a market for SB sliding windoors. Too bad. So what's your adaptation to compensate? I'd figure some Velcro comes into play somewhere. . . . .

I'm not sure about the DCSB vented windoor availablity between vendors... I think it comes down to glass manufacturers. If Snugtop can do it it means that they have a source for the glass. I recall reading a while back that either A.R.E. or Leer had problems sourcing the windows... Could be wrong, and it's really just hearsay...

Anyways, my plan to vent the cap is to permenantly leave open that little slider at the front of the cap. The slider on the cab of the truck will be closed all the time. I think I can either modify the forward cubbies in the bed to accommodate more air flow or just leave them alone. There is already some drain holes in them for water / rain.

If I am going to travel down a long dusty road I'll have to close that little slider beforehand and maybe I'll fabricate something to close off the cubbiess when I want them closed. I don't use them for anything right now...

Here is a picture of one of the cubbies

Also, I thought about if I do plan on lounging back there for some reason I could make "S" shaped clips to hold the windoors open a few inches to get some airflow. I'll have a much better idea once I take delivery of the cap and inspect it. :)

I was trying to think of some creative solutions, came up with none that didn't have drawbacks. I think those cubbies are open to the wheel wells, that means dust galore.

Maybe a popup vent on top of the shell? but you'd have to cut into the fiberglass. Not a lot of OEM topper options available for the SB I guess.

I was thinking some velcro strips would be a one year solution.

was told windoors with screens no problem and then when ordered found out it's not an option.. Obviously it's a big demand item, why can't they do it.. Obviously they'd sell a lot of tops.. Nearest Snugtop dealer to me is 600 miles.. :(

I did find that thread. I asked about ARE MX Walk-Ins there.
Sorry if it's a cross post.
I see a few, but I don't see any walk in doors.

No worries. I've only seen one MX with a walk in door on TW that I can remember. He is a regular member, can't recall his exact screen name at the moment.

I don't think the walk in doors are that popular. :notsure:
