Starter motor breather extension?

    Putting in a rebuilt starter the other day, i noticed there were 2 breathers, one on the motor and one on the solenoid. I'm thinking i can seal them and route breather tubes on them up higher. Seems stupid that they are pointed down. They aren't drain tubes are there? or is the starter otherwise sealed?

    Anyone ever hear of trying this?

    The nose of the starter where the bendix engages the flywheel is not sealed.

    Leave them alone.

    How are you going to seal the bendix?

    It moves in and out to engage the flywheel/flexplate.
