Hey guys i just got 2 12 mtxs with a 2 channel 1400w sony amp. They are 4 ohms each and were originally wired to 2 ohms and my amp couldnt take it bridged so i manually wired them for 2 channels they sounded ok at first when i did this but now arent hitting as hard. I ripped everything apart and checked everything all good. So i decided to hook just one of the subs to try it out and both the subs hit? How does that make any sense? Are the wires to close together? Please help

If the subs are in the same enclosure, the pressure from one will move the other.

You've basically made yourself a passive radiator... the problem is, without properly tuning the box, the 2nd sub is hitting out of phase with the driven sub and it's hurting your output.

If you wired them out of phase, it'll sound like shit.

Try reversing the connections on ONE driver.

so your saying for one of the channels to just flip the connections of what they are supposed to be? so one channel is + to + ETC and the other is + to -?

together they sound great when the amp is bridged. they hit alot harder i just re wired them that way but the amp gets super hot, the fan doesnt seem to be coming on as well, the fan does work tho. i may just hard wire it to the remote wire to stay on always. its not so much they sound like crap, its just they do not hit compaired to when i first wired them this way which seems weird to me. i had the amp turned down but now everything is maxed on my deck as well as the amp. could it be my subwoofer out on my deck messing with the 2 channels? i have a sw/r and another output on the back of my alpine

Okay... If they are reverse phased you'll get a significant loss of volume.

It would be normal for a pair of 4ohm speakers running in parallel (2 ohms) to hit harder with the amp running bridged... and yes, 2 ohms is one hell of a load so I'm not surprised it's running hot. You were running two channels into twice the load... that's a LOT more wattage.

ok i may just have to sell these then to get the most use from it. its stable at 2 ohm x2 so i may just have to get 2 ohm subs. when i bought these it said they were 2 ohms but they werent. they come in both but were just wired in 2 ohms so it kind of sucks since i bought this amp because of that

    That sucks.

Ya, if it's stable at 2x2, that's the best way to run it.
