Regearing soon... should I do ARB while I'm at it?

    Hey my peeps,

Just want to get some opinions.... I am going to be regearing soon in the next few weeks (probably thirds from ECGS) and thought to myself I might as well get a (rear) ARB locker while I'm at it.

It will add another $1000 + to the final bill, and I really don't do any off-roading (but anything can change, right?) but I sort of feel like it's my one chance (assuming I only do gears once ;) ) and I'm the kind of guy that will wish I had done it if ever stuck somewhere...

I know "its my money my choice..." etc... I just wanna hear some opinions

    Thx

If you don't, and start off-roading you'll wish you did. You would be amazed at what a locker can get you over and out of.

I'm in the same boat as you! Getting ready to order thirds from ECGS. You'll have to let us know what your experience was like with getting the third installed.

I've been thinking of doing the ARB lockers as well but I wonder how difficult they are to add later or if it is just best to get them installed initially.

Its not just $1000. You forgot to add the cost of the on board air pump, air tank, install, routing of wires and air lines, etc. That is not an inconsequential expense.

It is as difficult as possible to add them later. Totally redo all the install from scratch as it replaces the carrier and add the air fitting to your diffs etc. EIther get the ARB now or do not get it.

Remember for a 2nd gen the front ARB solves the worn needle bearing issue too.

I just re-geared mine with thirds from ECGS. It wasn't too bad to install them but i recommend you have a friend help you with the front diff. Much easier to wiggle it out. I went with the front locker (already have the factory locker in the rear). A rear locker does wonders offroading. If you do get the locker it may encourage you to do more offroading:D like was said above you have to tear it all back apart to add a locker after and if you can't set a ring and pinion yourself it will be really expensive to add one later...

As far as the OBA. I got the ARB middle sized compressor and didn't add a tank so it only cost me the cost of the compressor and a $40 add on kit so i can inflate tires with it too. My system works great and the compressor can activate the locker once without having to kick on.

Edit: wow i just realized this is a resurrected thread...
