You have to tap into the reverse wire.. it's the white and red wire at the top.

The reverse is only hot when you put the truck in reverse.

So, if you wire it into the reverse the camera will only come on when you're in reverse.

edit: oh i get it, you want it to come on automatically when in reverse OR when you flip the switch.

Tap one wire into the reverse wire and the other you can run to the battery I guess. Then just wire up the switch with both wires and a ground.

edit2: wait that wouldn't work. let me think about it :p

Okay, excuse my crappy diagram, I had to use an online paint program.

B is batter, S is switch, R is the reverse wire, HU is headunit.

idk but i bet you could get a adapter for the HU for a back up camera. i think most that have the back up camera capabilities have a adaptor.

Question, the way you show this wired, wouldnt it not function if he had the switch off?

Example, Switch off, shift into reverse = no camera im pretty sure.

I think this would do it. This is only the power wiring. I figure you knew to connect to HU. LOL also a Crappy wiring diagram but it should work.

Yours appears the same as the other diagram posted, It seems with the switch in the off position, even if you put in in reverse the cam wont turn on. Am I wrong on this, I really fell like I am overthinking it hear.

EDIT: Took a second lonnnnng look and thought about it some more. As long as the dedicated power to the camera is from the reverse light and then you use a splice on the camera power wire it will work. Run a power wire from a 12v source to your switch, then use a wire crimp inline on the camera's power line if you have the switch off the camera will still cut on when reverse lights are activated.

Man I over thought the shit out of that one.

If you run a + wire from the battery to the switch to the camera and also tie it into the backup wire, then everytime you turn on the camera, the backup lights would come on. Like on the diagram, the switch not only gives power to the camera, it also feeds the backup lights.
If you use Brandonn schematic you would set the truck on fire since the battery + goes through the switch straight to ground.
    Two diodes will work:
Battery ---- switch ---- >| ----- HU Camera ON (or Camera power)
    RevWire ---------------->|----'

This will prevent voltage from feeding back into the circuits.

K, it's installed but did you hook it up like you wanted, with the switch to turn on the camera and always on when in reverse?
