I need help in deciding something. So here is the deal. I bought a truck 3 months ago @ 78k miles its a 2005 TRD OR package DC prerunner. When i was getting it financed, i didn’t look into much and took it which was for $2400. Now anything major happens to my truck, they will fix but every time there is a co pay of $50 bucks. This warranty is till 150 or 6 years whatever comes first. Now if i was to cancel it now, my truck won’t have any warranty and they will send a check of $2300 to my bank and it will be credited to the principle i owe. I want your opinion to see if its worth keeping or is it good to get rid of it and get my money back?

If you maintenance the truck properly, get your money back. I don't think you will spend $2,300 in repairs the next 73k miles but on the other hand you will have piece of mind, no one can make the decision but you.

Take the money and put it in a savings bond. The key is don't spend it, have it in case. If the truck doesn't break down, you end up ahead. Unlikely your repair costs will be above that anyway. Minor stuff you can do yourself.

I have also heard from more than one person that it is NOT a bumper to bumper warranty, and there are numerous exclusions. The dealership also will try to attribute problems to items not covered by that extended warranty package.

    Save your money.

if i was getting the money back, i wouldve already cancelled it. The money will be credited from the ammount i owe on the truck and thats the only reason im not able to make up my mind. but yes it is a peace of mind is priceless though. I also agree that they say its bumper to bumper and covers pretty much everything but it doesnt really then whats the point of paying $2500 and then $50 co pay and come to find out it doesnt even cover much. However its Gold package that does have a whole lot covered. I just dotn want to cancell it and the next day something breaks. :notsure:

I just traded my 09 Tacoma for a new one and the salesman said I could call the dealer I bought my 09 from and cancel the extended warranty and get a refund. I bought the truck used and I kept it for 2 years. The warranty is for 4 years and was $1789. I'm hoping I get a decent check.:D

i bought an 09 about 4 months ago and they got me for 1800 on the toyota extended warranty...i thought about it for about 3 weeks and researched the company that the warranty was through (fidelity)...most people had problems getting them to cover repairs and there were a lot of complaints, so i cancelled it within the 60 day requirement

if they are sending the money to your finance company, you will never know the difference. I assume it will only knock off like 5-6 months of your payment. But over the next few years if you need it and dont have you will sure be upset making that payment and a repair bill. just my $0.02

You have a $50 copay and then they will tell you that you need to sign off for a diagnosis fee in case the problem you came in for is not covered under your warranty.

There are a ton of exclusions (check the list before you go in) and they will do their best to no end, to not cover the job. They have to call in for approval, the repair makes the tech very little money and the dealer seems to care very little for going the extra mile for extended care clients.

I have mine and I choose to do my own work since it is a three ringed circus and a waste of time to go there unless it is a real large repair job. I have platinum which came with the truck when I bought it from the original purchaser. Would not have bought on my own.

There is a 99% chance they will not replace a part unless it is fully broken. TSB style repairs you would think would be easy since they are a known problem and your vehicle has the symptoms, nope they tell you to bite the curb.

If it somewhat works or meets their idea of being operable you just paid their shop time for their tech, out of your pocket which makes them more money and you are left with no repair made.

If it is a large repair you will have to wait for a rep to come out and view the vehicle as well which takes even longer since they are not always in area.

Your time means nothing to them.

I personally know two people that work at the dealers near me and still stay clear.

FUCK YOU Toyota and extended care.

If your vehicle is fully paid and you did not use the warranty you get the money back. Since you are under lien at the moment they would just edit your total amount and no money in hand.

I sold Toyota warranties for ten years at a Toyota dealership, and yes I did buy them myself. The key is that it is a Toyota VSA. (they technically are not called warranties, but vehicle service agreements). Also, that it is a Platnimum, zero deductible. And finally, don't pay too much! If the price is right (you can research them online) and the coverage is Platnimum, it can be good peace of mind.

I'm glad that I never got the extended care. I know that I am very anal about getting my maintenance and getting it done when it should be done. I could see for people who don't do their maintenance on time and what not. If you take care of your vehicles then you're paying for something that more than likely ever use. It's a "in case shit happens" kind of warranty. The stupid thing is that you don't get your money back if nothing happens. And when you do need it, the dealership will do anything they can to exclude them from using it(i.e. You paying for it because of some stupid exclusion in the fine print).
