Ok so I just pulled the trigger on a Clarion NX702.

I have an 06 Double cab factory stereo. I'm just installing the Double din for now.

    My question is......

I don't have a OEM satelite antenna, but I would like to install one. Where can I find one. And what other cables/parts will I need? Does anyone have a DIY for this sort of thing???

Any help is greatly appreciated... And yes I've used google and the site search but haven't really found anyone doing the same sort of thing. I thought I would.

Most often the hu manufacturer puts out a matching antenna module. Worth looking on crutchfield etc. Would connect to your sat port on the hu and be a small box you tuck away and then off of that it would connect to the actual sat antenna.

That is most likely the cheapest and easiest way to do it. Then you'd just have to call the sat people and sign up/activate your hu.

The factory sat antenna uses a slightly different style plug than standard aftermarket sat radios. If you purchase an OEM shark-fin style sat antenna, you will have to drop your headliner and drill a hole through your roof for install. Once that is done, somehow find a way to purchase the OEM antenna cable which will be hard since its wrapped in with the factory vehicle harness I'm assuming. If you can do all that, then the adapter to convert the OEM plug to standard aftermarket sat radio antenna in cost about $60-80 and is very very difficult to find. IF you accomplish all this and most likely spend upwards of $300+, the chances of it actually working and being compatible with your sat radio will be slim. Sat radio antennas are the most delicate and sensitive things I've ever installed. I would advise against this. But its your call

    Ok so

1)what would you recomend is the best way to go about running an antenna?

    2) Is there a way I can do a shark fin style without using an OEM antenna cable. Is there a better cable?

Here is another thread that is somewhat related to your question. If I understood it correctly, he was looking for the exact opposite as you (stock radio to aftermarket antenna. This and this are links to the adaptor that I know will work to convert our Tacoma "shark-fin" antenna to standard sirius/xm/terk style antenna-in.

So this is what you will need:

    1) OEM Satellite radio roof mounted shark-fin style antenna- Order from dealership. Requires drilling hole in roof for install*

2)There are actually 2 cables to get the antenna to the radio: one that runs from the headliner (where it's connected to the roof-mounted antenna) to the left kick panel and another that runs from the left kick panel to the back of the JBL radio (blue connector). These must also be ordered from the dealer

    3) an adaptor as linked above to convert the toyota "square" plug to the standard "round" plug

*NOTE: YOU CONNOT CUT AND SPLICE THIS ANTENNA WIRE... IT WILL NOT WORK*

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/61-2nd-generation-2005/259495-2009-tacoma-satellite-antenna.html This thread from Toyota Nation shows pics of the oem-aftermarket cable install.

As for the factory parts (antenna and wire harness)... either go to the dealer or search online. I found the antenna assembly (shark-fin) HERE

I have been searching online for about 15 minutes and found all this info. Google is your friend :)

Thanks for the info. But is there a cable that could run directly from the shark fin all the way to the after market stereo?

Not that I am aware of. Search for a satellite radio antenna extension. If you find and extension then yes it will work fine, but either way you still need the conversation cable
