I put three 1" velcro squares under each cup holder, and they seem to be staying put. I might add a little bit more velcro later and maybe figure out a way to connect the two seperate cup holders so the connection is even stronger. That way, if you're pulling on one cup holder, the other velcroed cup holder will help hold it in place as well as the velcro under the one you're pulling on (I hope that makes sense).

The first time I brought home food in my Taco, walked into the house with hands full, bag in one hand and a drink under one arm and another in the other hand and heard my wife say "what is that?" I was like "food". She says no, "on the drink?" About the time I went to sit it down and realized.

There have been several times now with full hands and have them damn things stuck to the bottom. Pisses me off.

I'll have to do the velcro thing, just bought some the other day for the wife. Great idea! I feel like :homer:

Wow. I actually like the new ones better... I had an 06 with the older style and found it a pain to clean. When something spilled a little it would get under the little rubber mat and glue it to the plastic underneath. Cleaning around the ribs on the sides and the 90 degree angles in the console was annoying. The screw underneath that holds the console down got way rusty after a while. The new ones in my 11? Never really had a problem with them pulling out inadvertently. Just a quick pull-out and rinse in the sink and they're clean too. Also spilled drink has never gotten to the bottom of the tray.

Oh well, guess I'm alone on this one... :)

Not alone, but maybe just the minority or silent majority... Personally I had the divider in my 09 and did not like it. The "adjustments" never seemed to be right for what I had in there, so the drink would slide around. I acquired a set of the drop-ins last year and like then much more. I do get the "stuck" holders on a large drink sometimes, but not enough to move back. I can see the benefit of the divider for very large drinks, but that wasn't what I needed very often. I still have the divider so I can switch it out as needed, but have yet to ever have to go back.

End of the day, personal preference. To bad toyota didn't offer it as an option :eek:

Obviously depends on the diameter of the drink container. Like you, I purchase smaller diameter containers (soft drinks cans, drinks with skinny bottles, skinny containers for my own drinks - gotta have my iced tea, etc) and have never have a problem. On rare occasions, I use the door pockets for larger drink containers.

During trips (several hours or longer), I always have a small cooler in the back floor, filling smaller bottles from larger containers during each stop (just enough to sip on until the next stop).

3M sells a high temp, velcro-style tape would work. It has larger plastic interlocking tabs and is unisex(can act as hook or loop). It adheres stronger than ordinary velcro, which becomes gummy when hot.
Another option would be the plastic locking quick clips. The style that hold our mud flaps on would hold and be easy to remove.

I like this idea! Just need a big washer to make sure the rubber insert doesn't rip out around the screw if you have a big cup good and stuck.

    Here's what I did:

Took a piece of 3/16" acrylic, cut it in a circle so that it fit snug at the bottom of the cup holder, beveled the edge a little to fit the contour of the rubber and there ya go! It spaces the commuter mug up just enough so that I dont get that suction hold but it doesn't wobble around. Problem solved,,,,and easy to remove if I don't want it any more.
