Truck bed bike mount

I am wanting to mount some of those bike mounts that you attach your bike
Fork to in the bed or my truck.

I have searched this forum and all over the web for pictures or for anyone who has done it and I have had no luck!

So my initial thought was to mount them on the top of the bed rail just below my back glass or to the front side of my bed.
Just still 2 holes through my bed liner and bed and then mount these brackets on there. Sorry the description is a little hard to follow but hopefully y'all can get the picture!
Any thoughts or ideas maybe someone has actually done this and I just missed it.

I already have a bike rack that I build that slides in the back of my truck but it just doesn't hold my bikes that well and I also would like some thing bolted down so I can lock my bike to my truck like I can with these fork mounts.

 

But I am open to all ideas and thoughts!!

I used to have one of these bolted to the bed of my truck when I was in school. Just drilled a couple of holes and used lock nuts. Then you can put a lock from your bike to one of your cargo tie downs in the bed. Definitely a cheap easy way to haul your bike!

My new bike has one of the through axles in the front, so if you have one of those you will need an adapter with this type of mount.

I did something like this a LONG while ago so sorry, no pictures and memory is semi hazy now on how I did it.

I forget why, but I bolted a piece of U channel up front across the top, but inside the bed. I had some fork mounts that I bolted to this using carriage type bolts the best I could find. This gave a smooth head to the bolt on the outside so it could not be tampered with. The nut and lock washer was then inside the U channel which had the open end butted up to the bed front so that they could not be undone. Hmmm, maybe that is why I used the channel?

Anyway, then I ordered some mounts for the front wheels next to that. Got them from either Performance or BikeNashbar (don't even know if they are still around, but probably shows how long ago it's been). The wheel mounts were horizontal inside the bed.

Had a couple of holes drilled through the channel so I could have a cable lock to snake through bike frame and back wheel on each side and another that would run through the front wheels. Guess another reason I used the channel rail.

Rear tyre sat in the channel to the bed liner so the whole system was pretty solid.

At least worked well for me. Loading was super simple (road bikes so not sure how mountain bikes would be).

 

Here' mine. All Aluminum/Stainless in total cost me about $60 to build myself.


as you can see it attaches to the factory D-Ring. So no drilling was done to the bed.
