I just wanted to give a heads up to everyone else out there driving a 2012 Tacoma. I baught my SR5 DoubleCab back in December of last year and around July the dash started chipping by the defroster vent. Now i know the sun can be harsh but that is way to soon for that to be happening. When i took it in not only was the guy behind me in line for the same thing but the guy looking at my truck told me its becoming a big issue and they are afraid its going to become a recall. There ordering me a brand new top to my dash and i will have it installed soon. So if you have a 2012 and this is happening to you get yours in and get a replacement!

yup, happening to mine too. My dealership said I have to wait for the guy from corporate to check it out to approve any replacement, and he only comes by once a month....

I remember seeing another thread like this somewhere on here not long ago. Sorry to hear about this OP.

Hopefully the dash chipping is just a few isolated instances and not something widespread for 2012's

I noticed that all of the trucks with a chipping dash on this thread and the other thread of the same problem were all double cabs. I wonder if this is problem is related to secific plant, maybe Mexico where a lot of double cabs are built.

I have one of the first 2012's that hit the lot, purchased it in November last year. No issues with mine, yet. I just went outside with a flash light and inspected it. My interior temps have been up to 111F before in the VA Beach summer heat. I do use a sun shade though.

I do not use any protectant/cleaner on the dash besides very little meguiars natural shine and that is not often. Usually just wipe it down with a damp rag.

I'm curious to know where the truck was made and if others are made from the same place. Can you and others let us know?

I have an '11 my dash color peeled right off. I had a map taped on the dash with masking tape. Was there for a few hours. When I took the tape off the color came right with it.

Guess I got lucky on my '08.

Before I installed my Rosen, I rolled for about 3 months with a Garmin "puck" stuck to the dash with 3M body trim tape.

Assuming that the dash was molded color, I didn't think anything of it and just yanked it off, then peeled the remainder of the tape.
    No damage to the dash.

I started the other thread that's linked previously. Mines a 2012, built 10/11, in Mexico, and used armor all one time.
From what I've read and seen, the only link is the use of armor all... I'm not saying that's the reason, but I figure that's what I've noticed. If you're dash is peeling and have not used armor all, lemme know.

Armor all as far as I know contains alcohol and will dry out your dash!!!!

    Probably a manufacturing problem though:(

My truck is an 05 My dash looks like the day I bought it

Here is how I clean my dash

Go out any buy a product called Tuff Stuff Big red can yellow cap Autozone sells it.

Spray a nice 5 second blast of Tuff stuff into a clean bucket (its foamy)

Then put about a half gallon of warm water into bucket and mix it with Tuff Stuff

Get a clean micro fiber rag and dip it into bucket. Ring out the micro fiber rag really good just so it's damp. Wipe down dash and everything thing else that's plastic

It wont shine it. But it will remove all the dirt and dust and smell nice:)

    Will not fade dash
