Dull truck

My bedsides, R and L Fender are dull. I'm not sure if its oxidation but its in need of care. My truck is Super White what are some of the stuff I can use in my garage to get rid of the dullness. Any help is appreciated.

 

I'd start with a full out detail to see if it brings it back. Wash, clay, polish and wax or sealant. If your clear coat is really messed up, one of the detailers might have some other ideas for you.

I also have a superwhite and the steps above is how I detailed my truck. Here are the products I used and the end result:

 

I've used Meguiars clay kit, Meguiars ultimate compound, polish and wax. Pretty much all the Meguiars ultimate products. I'm still not have much luck. If the coming up weekend is nice out I'm going to give mothers cleaner wax a try.

 

Sounds like its time for a random orbital polisher and some Megs 105/205. You said you used polish on it, was it by hand or with machine? I would have to recommend this one: The best detailing investment I ever made!

 

I used the polish by hand. I have used the random orbital before at my friends house. We used it with the griots 1 step sealant after clay barring. I wonder what we did wrong? Maybe in the sun?

 

Did the haze come before or after the polish? Did you do any kind of a wipe down after the polish? An IPA (isopropyl alcohol) wipedown is needed after polishing to remove leftover residue. Its possible there was some leftover residue that gave your wax fits or just created the haze? You might try washing with some dish detergent and starting all over. Just do one panel (or even a small 12x12 square) and see what the outcome is?

From my experience you arent really gonna make a heckuva lotta difference in polishing by hand. You can, but, wow, I wouldnt wanna do that. Try your buds Griots again? Check your panel after each step to see where the haze might be coming in. And yes, do it in the shade. There are some polishes, but not many, that say they work in direct sunlight, but I wouldnt recommend that. Plus it just feels better in the shade!

 

Here's what I did. I Washed the entire truck, Dry it with the absorber. Clayed the entire truck with griots clay bar and speed shine. Then applied the 1 step sealant using the Random Orbital DA polisher. I feel like I need to take it to the professionals.

 

You skipped the polish step in there between the clay bar and the sealant. Try using something like Meguiar's Ultimate Compound after clay barring and before applying your sealant or wax. Clay barring can leave little scratches in the surface so you need a compound to sort of buff all that out.

 

For cutting and polishing which machine orbital do you recommend between these two porter cable dual action or the griots random orbial? Do they have a machine that does it all waxing, buffing, and polish?

 

I use good ole fashioned elbow grease

 

I heard the result arent the same when polishing.

 

Depends on how strong your elbows are...

All I know is, I spent 7 - 8 hours washing, clay barring, polishing and waxing my truck and the results were phenominal. I've never used a buffer or any other means of mechanical polishing so I can't compare the results but polishing by hand eliminated all paint swap, rust spots and rail dust.

 

What product works best for you?

 

I have used the Griots and love it. Never used the PC, but I dont think you can go wrong with either.

You can use these machines to do both polishing and waxing. All you need to do is change the pads. For CCS pads, Orange = Cutting pad, White = Finishing pad, Grey/Blue = Jeweling and/or wax sealants.

Those with Super white how's your paint? Any dull oxidized/faded spot? I was told Red and White toyota vehicles tends to fade and oxidize easily.

 

Wasted $123 at a auto detail shop. So I decided to order my self the Meguiars DA polisher and the DA paint correction system kit. The whole thing costed $240 shipped. I should have ordered this first before spending that $123. Will update the results of my new system.

 

Watch this before you do any damage to your paint. I'm not familiar with the Meguiar's polisher but this is one of the most mentioned polishers on this site and here's a video someone linked me to in another thread:

The Meguiars DA polisher is very similar to that porter cable.

 

I've got 30k miles on my 2010 and I just barred and waxed by hand and it looks like it just rolled off the lot. No tools just me and some good microfiber rags and meguiars wax. I was amazed at how well it turned out. Didn't even bother polishing.
