Like Brock said, for one, smaller cones typically results in less distortion....

More versatile, has always played loud enough for my taste... granted the last 10 that I bought (at the time) retailed for roughly $500 (I only paid $150 thanks to a vendor hookup). I ran two 10's back in high school (mid 90's) in a pre-made bandpass box that I always thought sounded good until I bought a pair of good 10's and learned from my mistakes... then I get into my late 20's, have a bit more expendable income, and learn again and buy a much nicer single 10 and learn how to become friends with vendors and their engineering department and get "top secret" plans for an experimental box.

I build said box, tweak it slightly, and then one day a guy at the gas station heard me at the light and asked how many 12's I had in my trunk ("Three, right?" was what he said). I told him a single 10 and had to pop the trunk to prove it to him :D

I'm out of the loop when it comes to actual gear... it's been 8+ years since I installed anything let alone looked at buying something. My favs had always included the Alpine Type R subs (Type S are also pretty decent for their price) and the Diamond Audio subs.

    My recipe for success:
Better sub, better amp, more power, more output > cheaper but more subs, cheaper amp cuz you spent twice as much on a pair of subs, less power (or at least less clean power), less output (or more distortion)

Also, on a weird note... ever noticed that speakers in general and subs specifically don't have distortion ratings? Ever wonder why that is?

So i built it and havent cut the hole for the sub yet and decided i dont want ot spend the money for a nice system.

so im sell the custom sub box that fits inbetween the two front seats and rests on the rear seat but i made it so the back seat can still seat 2 ppl with the sub box installed

ill post up pics when i can
